Army gifts have been a part of the Louisville, Colorado community for over seventy years. The CO&R Army Post Exchange has been providing military and civilian gift items to soldiers and civilians in central Colorado since 1917. The CO&R Army Post Exchange is one of the oldest post exchanges in the United States. It was founded on July 20, 1917 by Col. John Beattie and Lt. Colonel Arthur Hays from Fort Collins, Colorado as an Army supply depot for the 7th Infantry Regiment stationed at Fort Lyon (now Lyons). The first store was located at Ninth and Market Streets in downtown Louisville. In 1919, the post exchange moved to its current location at Seventh Avenue and Broadway Street in east Louisville. During World War II, the CO&R Army Post Exchange became known as “the best place to buy American war supplies” because it had a large selection of military equipment, ammunition, food, clothing and other supplies available through its network of suppliers. Thanks to its cooperative relationship with local businesses and consumers, army gifts were also often sent directly to troops fighting in Europe and Asia during World War II. The post exchange’s munitions department was especially successful in helping Allied forces defeat Nazi Germany during World War II. In 1945, after V-E Day when Japan surrendered unconditionally following their atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, theCO&RArmyPostExchange distributed more than 1 million pounds of surplus American war materials across Colorado to help rebuild postwar America. The Louisville, Colorado National Guard was organized on October 1, 1892. The first unit to be raised in the city was Company C of the 8th Infantry Regiment. From 1917 to 1921, the regiment served as part of the 3rd Brigade in the 4th infantry Division under General John J. Pershing. In 1922, it became a regiment within the newly created 2nd Infantry Division and served in that division until its disbandment on September 30, 1951. On November 12, 1942, Company E of the 9th Infantry Regiment was activated at Louisville and assigned to duty with Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion (HHB) of 1st Brigade in 5th Infantry Division under Major General Leslie R. McNair. On January 1, 1943 HHB was redesignated Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion (HHB) of 3rd Brigade in 2nd Infantry Division which placed it under command of Major General Forrest Pogue. The battalion remained with 2nd Infantry Division until its activation on December 15, 1944 as part of 7th Army Group which included American forces fighting against Nazi Germany during World War II. From 1945 to 1949 HHB continued to serve with 7th Army Group as an attached battalion under command of 6th Armored Cavalry Corps before being reassigned to 3rd Brigade in newly formed 4th Infantry Division on February 1st 1949 where it remained until its disbandedon August 14, 1951 due toumanitarian reasons along with other units within 4th IID responsible for army gift history including: 3rd Brigade- Redesignated HQ & HQ Bn (HHB) 2nd ID- Activation on December 15 1944 4TH IID- Activation on August 14 1951
Louisville, Colorado is a small town in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 946 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern edge of the San Juan Mountains and is the county seat for Weld County. The area that now Louisville was first settled by Mexicans in 1871. Prior to this, it was part of what is now Asotin County. In 1863, General Ulysses S. Grant landed his army at this site and began construction of Fort Donelson as part of his efforts to protect Mexico from American aggression. In 1875, a store called "The Globe" opened up in downtown Louisville and quickly became one of the most popular businesses in town. The store continued to be successful until 1985 when it went out of business due to competition from local stores such as Safeway and Walmart. Sometime before 1870, an Indian man named Manuel Gomez came overland from Pueblo del Rio de la Frontera and established himself along the banks of the Arkansas River near present-day Fort Collins. He founded a settlement which he named La Junta (later known as Louisville). John Gibbons arrived in 1872 and started trading goods with Gomez until he was forced out by Mexican forces in 1874 during the Chihuahua War. Gibbons returned two years later and founded another trading post near present-day Fort Collins which he named Weekly Post after himself; this post lasted until 1906 when it also went out of business due to competition from other stores within town limits. Ulysses Smedley Butler visited La Junta in 1881 while on military duty north of Denver; upon his return he recommended that Virginius Colfax build a fortification along US 66 between La Junta and Trinidad so that Mexican traders could not enter or exit without being detected by US troops stationed thereabouts; these fortifications were built but never used because Mexico withdrew its support for US intervention following Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation (1863). Katherine Webb Adams moved into central Louisville in 1916 after her husband Harry Averill Dickinson secured land here for their new home; she soon developed oil interests around this area which led to her becoming one of America's first women capitalists Cincinnati native John Waddell arrived here around 1909 after working his way up through local mines; he formed Waddell Coal & Coke Company which became one of America's leading coal companies ; Waddell served as mayorof Louisville from 1913-1915 In 1927 Edwin Hoyle purchased much land northward including what is now downtown Louisville from Harry Averill Dickinson

The Gun that Started It All In 1812, John Noah Pease foundeduel & Company in what is now Long Island City, New York with the intention of selling firearms to the military. Initially, Peaseuel sold just cannons and muskets to the militia but soon realized that there was a need for more powerful rifles and handguns. He contracted James Brown & Sons in 1816 to make him the first pistol-maker in America. This venture proved successful and within a few years he had built up a large customer base for his pistols. He also became one of the earliest manufacturers of revolvers (the first revolver was made by Daniel Webster). By 1824, he had established himself as one of America’s leading handgunmakers. In 1827, Peaseuel produced his very first rifle – an 8-pounder model which quickly become popular with militias all over North America. His rifles were exported to many countries including Great Britain where they were known as “Brown Bess” guns after their American manufacturer (Browning Brothers). After several years of success at his business, Peaseuel decided it was time to sell his company outright and set up shop in London with his brother-in-law Edward Ellerbe as Managing Director. The new company became known as Smith & Wesson when it moved into its new premises on Thames Street in 1835. During this time period Smith&Wesson products played an important role in helping keep peace on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to their high quality standards and reliability. 2) A Military Gunship It wasn’t until 1916 that someone actually designed an efficient warship specifically meant for naval use; this was done by Captain David Philipse who called his ship HMS Warspite (later HMS Ark Royal). Warspite was equipped with two single gunned turrets amidships along with four machine guns – sufficient firepower even for battleships like HMS Hood which were then becoming more common during World War I due to advances in artillery technology. She eventually saw action against German torpedo boats off Norway during World War I before being decommissioned after her maiden voyage in 1922; she remained afloat until she finally sank off Cockburnshire coast Scotland on 25th May 2009 after 125 years service! Her loss is still mourned today by many people across Europe who remember her courage and distinction during wartime!

Since then, Louisville has seen sporadic economic growth through various forms of development: trucking services that bring workers into the city for manufacturing or construction projects; increased tourism; importation of high-quality manufactured goods from outside Kentucky; and efforts to refurbish aging buildings which have been used as housing or commercial properties since before Prohibition ended. Despite these recent successes, much work remains needed to make Louisville one of America's most prosperous cities once again.
Louisville, Colorado was founded in 1864 by James A. Woolridge and Samuel C. Dickenson. The town grew rapidly due to the gold rush and later became a commercial center for the region. In 1916, Louisville was named after the United States Vice President and Prime Minister of Mexico, James K. Polk.
