The National Guard of Louisville, Colorado was organized on September 14, 1912. It was the first national guard organization in the United States. The Guard was originally called the Colorado Guardsmen and changed its name to the National Guard of Louisville, Colorado on November 1, 1912. The Guard served as a militia force for local defense until 1941 when it became an all-volunteer unit under the command of the Army Reserve. In 1951, it became an independent establishment androtated between active duty and reserve status. TheGuard disbanded on October 20th, 1975 due to budget cuts within the military. Today there is still a limited number of National Guardsmen stationed in Louisville, Colo., as part of state law enforcement agencies or by order from governors as part of national security forces. The units have been used in various events such as PipeLines Day Parade and Festival parade each year since 1984

In 1912, Louisville became the second city in Colorado to be incorporated. The city experienced significant growth during World War II as a result of its proximity to military bases and munitions production. The war led to a decline in population and businesses after the war ended, but Louisville has since regained some of its former prosperity.
