Louisville, Colorado is a small town in the Rocky Mountains of western Colorado. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is located about northwest of Denver and southeast of Fort Collins. The community was founded in 1879 by John Vail and his brother-in-law, Augustus Guthrie. They named the town after Louisville, Kentucky, but it wasn't until 1886 that they laid out a streetscape with broad avenues and formal squares. In 1902, local farmers started to sell hay to feed livestock in nearby Denver; this led to the first commercial operation in Louisville. The town's first post office opened in 1903. In 1907, coalmining began on nearby La Plata Hill; this led to increased development around the area and increased population growth. In 1916, Louisville became one of two communities within boundaries created by an act of Congress fortsification purposes; other communities were Douglas and Greeley (now Grand Junction). The population reached 5,000 by 1921 when a new school building was completed downtown; this helped spur economic development around town which continues today with several shopping malls and restaurants located throughout downtown as well as several important cultural attractions including The Kentucky Exposition Center which has been home to various exhibitions since 1915 and is now a museum complex In 1949-50, construction began on what would become known as "the master plan" for downtown Louisville – an ambitious $5 million project that aimed to create a modern cityscape with major retail corridors bisecting main streetsides while also adding high-rise buildings providing panoramic views of Downtown Denver from many areas within the city limits

Louisville, Colorado is a city in the US state of Colorado. The population was 17,541 at the 2010 census and was projected to grow to 20,015 by 2030. It is part of the Fort Collins-Aurora metropolitan area. Louisville has been inhabited for over 10,000 years and is one of the oldest cities in Colorado. The first Europeans to visit Louisville were Spanish traders in 1805. They brought horses, cattle and wheat with them from New Mexico. In 1820, James Bowie founded what would become known as Bowie City on an Indian reservation east of downtown Louisville. He named it after himself because he had discovered gold deposits there while prospecting for diamond mines in Nevada and Arizona. By 1830, when Denver was established as the capital of Colorado Territory, Fort Collins replaced Bowie City as the main settlement in what would become Louisville County. In 1875, surveyor John Wesley Powell located a water source at drilled through a rock outcrop near present-day downtown Louisville and began exploration for oil wells under what became known as The Forks Formation. This led to construction of both The Kentucky Hotel (now called Westminster) and Eastern Pipeline Company's Richmond Dome crude oil refinery on land leased from The Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad Company northeast of downtown Louisville in 1886–87 by Colonel George Crockett Sr., one of America's most influential entrepreneurs during the Gilded Age
