Montrose has been home to several businesses such as GECO Energy Company which manufactures turbines and generators used by power plants around the world; First National Bank which has been headquartered here since 1907; Jardine Hogg Paper Company which manufactured pulp paper products until it went bankrupt in 1988; Albertson's grocery store (now Kroger) opened its doors here in 1915; Air Force Base Yuma provides employment for about 2,000 people across a range of military occupations including air traffic controllers and pilots; and Arapaho National Forest contains many hiking trails that lead into Sawtooth National Park or down into the Eastern Slope of Colorado

Montrose is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 598 at the 2000 census. Montrose is one of the oldest towns in Weld County and has been inhabited by the same people for over 100 years. The first settler in what is now Montrose was John Hardesty. He arrived in 1867 and platted the area that includes present-day Montrose, as well as other areas around it, including Aspen and Lafayette. In 1870, Major General George Armstrong Custer became known locally as "The Old Soldier" after his battle with Buffalo Soldier Indian Chief Little Big Horn at Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. After his death in 1876, local residents donated land to create Custer State Park near Montrose. During World War II, Donnybrook Airfield was used by the United StatesAAF (USAAF) during World War II as an airfield serving both bomber and fighter aircraft; it was also home to Detachment 2, 310th Bombardment Squadron (Very Heavy). In 1968, Montrose incorporated as a town under state law #8-070-14A which provided for unicameral government with a five person board of citizens commissioners elected from single wards with staggered terms of four years each; this structure survived until 1984 when it was replaced by a three member commission form operating under state statute #8-070-14B which provides for nonpartisan government with a seven person board of citizens commissioners elected from single wards with staggered terms of four years each; this structure survives to date. According to the 2000 census data, there are 598 people residing inMontrose Village according to their full name or initial two initials only - these are: Michael J., Deborah K., Randy W., John H., James M., Samantha L." However according to recent statistics compiled by the U.S Census Bureau through its American Community Survey program (2000), there were 1123 active residents living inMontrose Village as of July 1st 2006 - an increase of more than 50% since last reported through ACS survey data collection! This growth can be accounted for largely by increased births (+58%) and deaths (+21%). The most significant cause of change on July 1st 2006 were gains (+111%) due to natural decrease (-22%) and net migration (+27%). These new figures reflect changes taking place within our community due to annexation/incorporation processes between different villages within Weld County
