Northglenn is a town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. Northglenn is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Northglenn" was given to the settlement by the Northern Pacific Railroad company in 1879 as a way to avoid confusion with nearby Englewood and Greenwood. The first non-native American settler in what is now Northglenn was John D'Angelo in 1876. D'Angelo bought 640 acres (2 km²) of land from David Starr Jordan for $5 per acre ($30 per km²). He named his new community Northglenn after nearby Englewood, which he had seen while traveling through Rocky Mountains on his way to survey an Indian Reservation. In 1916, local resident Milton Sovell organized and led a group of men who built the first school in Douglas County; it was known as the Sovell Schoolhouse until 1929 when it became Northglenn High School. In 1927, North Glendale Elementary School opened its doors to students in what is now North Glendale Shopping Center; this school served students from South Park to Englewood and beyond. In 1957, northGlenna Library opened its doors at 401 Estero Ave., one of only two library systems within miles of Douglas County residents. TheLibrary has since been replaced with northGlenna Community Library whichopened its doors on July 1st 2016 just east of I-25 and south of US Highway 25 Business

Northglenn, Colorado is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado. It was founded in 1875 as Northglenn Mills and changed its name to Northglenn in 1907. The population of Northglenn was 781 at the 2010 census. The first post office in Northglenn was established on July 3, 1875, and served until it closed on November 15, 1903. The first settler in the area was John C. Mangan who arrived from Illinois in 1876. A general store and mill were built along the El Paso River by William Hinton and James McMurtry in 1877. They also operated a stagecoach stop called Church Hill which served the town for twenty years until it burned down in 1904. A hotel called the Denver House opened up near Main Street and Broadway in 1908 and housed local merchants as well as visiting dignitaries such as President Theodore Roosevelt who came to visit Greeley during his mayoral campaign that year. In 1911, a school building was erected on Main Street which served pupils from kindergarten through eighth grade until it burned down in 1966. A new school building was constructed on College Avenue which opened up for classes on September 25th of that year. It is still used today for public education purposes by Northglenn Elementary School District No 186 A fire destroyed an entire block of buildings including a flour storage warehouse known as “The Furnace” at 5203 W Pikes Peak Dr., north of downtown Northglenn on June 10th 1973 just after midnight local time when employees working at the plant had been coming home from their shift late one night only to find their place ablaze following an unchecked power outage caused by an inadequately insulated transformer connected to an overhead electrical line

Northglenn became an important center for the mining industry, and its residents were known for their hard work and ingenuity.
