Northglenn, Colorado is a small town in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 3,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Junction metropolitan area. Northglenn, Colorado was founded in 1868 by farmers and miners who were looking for a new place to live and work. The town was named after Northglenn, Kansas, which was the original home of the Pikes Peak Gold Rush. Northglenn quickly became an important center for mining and agriculture because it had good infrastructure and resources. The town also grew into a popular tourist destination thanks to its natural features, including the San Miguel River canyon and Mount Elbert National Monument. In the 1920s, Northglenn experienced some growth due to World War II military production plants that were located there. However, from the late 1960s until today, Northglenn has been a primarily agricultural community with few industries present. Today, NorthglEN is one of the most vibrant towns in Weld County with a population of around 100 residents. The first inhabitants of Northglenn were farmers who settled in what is now downtown in 1868. By 1870, many other people had moved into town as well: merchants, lawyers, mechanics/shopkeepers, artisans (including clockmakers), teachers and others who wanted to start their own businesses or support their families while they waited out the gold rush era. Over time though most people gradually left or died off asmining activity dwindled down and transportation became easier to get to other parts of the country; only a few hundred people lived in what is now downtown when it opened up for business on April 15th 1870. Mining began coming back around 1900 but at this point more men than women worked in mines because it was seen as more dangerous than farming at this point; women didn't participate fully until after World War II when advancements were made in safety clothing and working conditions for women workers throughout all industries). Mining continued until 1911 when high prices brought about by new finds led to strikes among miners across America which closed much of western Colorado’s coal mines between 1912-1914; however local entrepreneurs managed to reopen some mines but these operations did not last very long because mainline rail transported coal further east where prices were much higher again so soon thereafter (and manufacturing took over).
