Northglenn, Colorado is a town in Rocky Mountain National Park located in the southeastern corner of the state. The population was 2,853 at the 2010 census. Northglenn is bordered by Aspen to the north, Golden to the east, Durango to the south and west, and Pueblo to the northwest. The community was founded in 1887 as a station on an old stage line between Telluride and Arapaho Falls. It grew rapidly during the late 19th century because of its location near two major railroad lines: The Denver & Rio Grande Western Railway (D&RGW) ran through town and transportation became essential for both local businesses and tourists visiting Rocky Mountains National Park. Northglenn also developed into a popular tourist destination due to its easy access to hiking trails, natural resources including waterfalls and mountains, as well as its wide variety of restaurants and shops. During much of recent history Northglenn has been overwhelmingly Republican with only two exceptions: In 1984 when incumbent Mayor John Cook ran against then-Governor Roy Romer for reelection he lost by just over 60% of the vote; And in 2002 when Libertarian candidate Bob Bunch won an open seat on City Council after redistricting caused three other seats to be included within Aspen Township instead of being given directly to unaffiliated candidates. However all three instances were overturned on appeal subsequent year due to party affiliation changes within that particular municipality which took place largely due to population growth within that geographic area since those elections occurred. Today Northglenn is considered quite liberal with many residents previously affiliated with either third parties or no political affiliation whatsoever now voting exclusively for Democrats or members of House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). Northglenn is a small town in Colorado that has been around since the 1800s. The first settler in Northglenn was John A. Moran, who arrived in 1875. Northglenn was named after the local mountain, Northglen. The Moran family had many descendants who still live in the town today. Northglenn was originally part of Larimer County, but it became a separate municipality in 1907. In 1990, Northglenn merged with neighboring Clear Creek to form one consolidated municipality. Today, Northglenn is a vibrant community with a rich history that can be enjoyed by all! On July 1, 1876, Northglenn was incorporated as a town. The first mayor of Northglenn was John S. Carlson. On January 5, 1907, the General Land Office approved a plat for the Village of Northglenn and on February 3, 1907, Northglenn was officially organized as a village with a population of fifty-one. In 1916, the village passed an ordinance creating a school system which included one high school and six elementary schools. Northglenn's first post office opened in 1917 and closed in 1924. The north side of town was annexed by Park City on November 15, 1946; Park City has since acquired most of the rest of Northglen
