Northglenn, Colorado is a small town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. Northglenn is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Northglenn were the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians. They started a post on July 24, 1859, about three miles (4 km) east of present day Northglenn. The post was called "Dakota Station". In January 1861, Brigham Young came up the river from Utah with his Mormon Battalion and founded Salt Lake City south of Northglenn. On April 12, 1861, President Abraham Lincoln issued Executive Order 9 parameterizing how towns in Douglas County were to be organized: "No town or village within ten miles (16 km) of any other shall be erected without special authority from the President." This order created two towns in Douglas County: Northglenn and South Park. On October 17 1889, when Denver became an incorporated city limits area it annexed much of South Park including North Glensboro which had been part of Douglas County since 1872 as well as most of Dakota Station which had been within Logan county since 1868. In 1907 Logan county merged intoDouglas county so that all former Logan county land withinDenver city limits became part of Denver's new political boundaries; however some unincorporated areas still remain inside Aurora ZIP code 80112. After World War II many farmers left for service in Korea and Japan because there was no money available for them back home anymore after the war ended; this caused a decrease in population around 1945 due to immigration instead although by 1950 there had been a slight increase back to pre-war levels by 1959 even though more people moved into Aurora since 1945 then into Douglas counties overall. When IMAX opened up southwest Denver it caused increased business activity both north and south side especially north side where businesses used to close at 5pm because movie theaters were closed during lunchtime now they stay open late until 10pm or 11pm because IMAX keeps going up so that those on south side can watch their movies before going off to their jobs while those on north side can enjoy their movie experience without feeling like they are being cheated out of their time slot! Although Aurora has seen an increase over time in its diversity its crime rates have not changed much despite this growth; nevertheless there are always certain communities/zones that have higher crime rates than others just like any other community/zone has different strengths and weaknesses depending upon who you talk to about it
