Northglenn is a small, unincorporated community in Adams County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,724 at the 2010 census. Northglenn is located on the southern edge of the Isleton Reservoir and east of Fort Collins. It consists of a main street and several small businesses. The first people to live in Northglenn were Native Americans who hunted game in the area. A post office was established here in 1876, and the community name derived from its location near Northglen Creek. In 1903, Northglenn became part of the newly created Fort Collins city limits. In 1945, when Fort Collins was liberated from Japanese forces during World War II, many Japanese-American residents moved into town to take advantage of new opportunities that had been opened up for them after the war. Many shops and services open to non-citizens closed during this time as locals debated whether or not to welcome these newcomers. Eventually it was decided that North Glens would be able to handle itself and so no outsider businesses were allowed within its borders. During their residency in town, many of these Japanese-Americans formed a nucleus for what would become known as "The Japs". This group helped found local organizations such as The Kiwanis Club and The American Legion while also playing an important role in politics and community life hereabouts. Some descendants still live in Northglenn today; however most have left for better opportunities elsewhere since they are too closely associated with their wartime history hereabouts (e.g., participating politically). A post office called South Glen was established at nearby Springdale in 1907 but closed operations by 1909 because postal officials determined that there wasn't enough traffic on Route 66 between those two towns to justify maintaining an outpost there.). In 1941 when Fort Collins became an inactive military base following World War II, all mail arrived at Camp Verde west of town instead due to lack of transportation options available within town limits.. At some point after 1957 both Post Offices closed together; however it's uncertain when exactly this happened or how long things operated like this before either one reopened again as individual offices less than 2 blocks apart.. Although technically defunct until 1974 when it reopened under new management with much expanded services thanks to a $10 million campaign by then local councillor Rick Guidry (who would later become mayor), email accounts suggest that some basic functions (such asOnline voting) continued until sometime after 2005...
