Northglenn, Colorado is a town in Adams County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,857 at the 2010 census. Northglenn has been inhabited by Native Americans since the time of the Pueblo Culture. The first Europeans to visit what is now Northglenn were Spanish explorers seeking entrance into what is now Arizona in 1602. A year later Mexican soldiers discovered gold and silver deposits on the Animas River in what is now Weld County and decided to founded San Miguel de Allende as a mining camp on October 20, 1859. The town of Northglenn was platted on July 1, 1868, by James H. Logan from part of land grant known as Logan's Rancho Seco. John Sutter arrived in 1869 with his California Gold Rush cohorts and founded Sutter's Fort at present day Wheat Ridge when he discovered $5 million (and two claims for $10 million more) worth of gold over 6 months in January 1872. This discovery made him one of history's richest men and changed forever how people thought about exploration and development along the Rocky Mountains. In 1870s many companies began moving into Denver including Jardine & Macdonald who started construction on a canal that would connect Denver with Lake Mead through Northglenn Creek which they named after their then-employer Sir John Aitken Watt (1780 – 1865). The company built five miles long canal linking Cherry Creek to South Platte Creek before it was destroyed by floods during World War I; however canals have been rebuilt multiple times since then both upstream and downstream of Northglenn creek within city limits without incident. In 1902 Jardine & Macdonald leased 4 acres south of Main Street between Broadway and US Highway 24 for cattle pasture but never operated any buildings there because they were soon bought out by Canon Meat Packers who moved onto adjoining land east of US Highway 24 where they constructed four large meatpacking barns which remain today among the most well-preserved examples of Interurban Development architecture in western Colorado although all are no longer used for commercial purposes but still retain their original decorative elements such as false load bearing walls around each end gabled roofed structure typical for early 20th century meatpacking facilities which are also characteristic for some other WP structures located adjacent to them including one building that still stands unrestored at 213 Main Street which is currently under private ownership having been abandoned since 1978 despite being registered with Historic Districts Department since 1978
