The Navy deployed a large gift to Northglenn, Colorado on Dec. 12, 1941. The gift was the USS Arizona (BB-39). The ship had been decommissioned in 1940 and was undergoing restoration at the time of its deployment. The USS Arizona was christened on December 12, 1941 by Rear Admiral Harry W. Byrd with keynote address delivered by Vice President Franklin D. Roosevelt. At that time, it represented the first such deployment of a U.S warship to any American city in over 40 years and largest Deployment of Naval Forces in United States since Pearl Harbor Attack five months earlier On December 26th, 1941 the USS Arizona sailed into Northglenn Harbour after completing her long journey from San Francisco . George Jorgensen became the first person to disembark from the ship when she arrived at Pier 34 South located downtown Northglenn The USS Arizona's gifts include: two Victory Medals; four Bronze Stars for heroism; twelve cloverleaf patches honoring local friends and family members who contributed material or manpower during World War II; three sets of Ushanka gloves; one set each of dress shoes and slacks for officers and enlisted men; two 50 gallon drums filled with gasoline oil tanks as presents for civic leaders throughout the Denver metropolitan area USS Arizona also left behind a lasting legacy when she carried out Operation Neptune's Spear which successfully destroyed numerous Japanese ships off California Coast on December 8th 1942

It was founded in 1875 by Swedish immigrants who named it Northglen after their home village of Northgatan in Sweden. The first post office opened in Northglen on October 15, 1875. The town became a county seat of Weld County on February 3, 1907. On November 5, 1912, the town and county were merged to form the new city of Northglenn.
