As the United States enters its eighth century, one of the most important aspects of that history is the military. The Army has been part of America for over two centuries and it has a rich and longstanding history in Parker, Colorado. The first troops arrived in 1849 as Second Infantry Regiment from Utah Territory. The regiment was organized into four companies and served briefly in Wyoming before returning to Colorado. In 1851, Three Companies of Cavalry were also stationed in Parker. These units patrolled the area around town and played an important role during the early days of American westward expansion. In 1855, a group of congressman from Colorado traveled to Missouri to discuss forming a new state out of Oregon. When they returned to Denver, they recommended that Illinois be chosen as the new state’s capital because “the country’s population would then be too small for New Mexico or California; but there are enough people on this side of the Platte River for both [Colorado] and Illinois to accommodate without injuring each other much” (Harding 5). This idea was accepted by Congress and on July 4, 1856, $2 million was set aside in Ulysses S. Grant’s Executive Mansion budget for creating a Territorial government within Oregon which would eventually become Kansas. This event is often cited as the beginning of what is known as territorial warfare between Texas and Nebraska over control over east-central Nebraska land (Dixon 7). However, this conflict really started when General James Kansa began organizing his Indian Wars against Native Americans living near Fort Laramie in 1861 (Walsh 9). As federal troops were deployed increasingly into western states following these conflicts, questions arose about how best to organize these forces while still maximizing their effectiveness against indigenous populations? A detachment under Colonel George Armstrong Custer arrived at Fort Leavenworth on May 25th 1863 with orders to march on Omaha City towards Fort Kearney (Fletcher 3). Once located approximately 15 miles due south of Omaha City on June 2nd 1863, Custer ordered his men not to fire upon any civilian targets until he had made contact with Captain John Nicollet at Fort Kearney! This bold move demonstrated his commitment tocausing maximum casualties among Sioux Indians living northwest of Omaha City before moving forward.......................................Custers unauthorized attack shocked many civilians who thought he could not possibly harm them .........................On June 10th 1863 Lieutenant Dodge led Company A onto an open field just northwestof Fort Kearney where they massacred upwardsof twenty Sioux children including six women......................On July 8th 1863 Major General Bridger moved 1 Brigade from Cheyenne River Valleyto battle near present day Rosebud National Monument after hearing reports that sepoys had killed several settlers southwesterlyof Cheyenne River................. After three weeks long Battle at Rosebud National Monument some 6500 US soldiers lost their lives................... On November 17th 1865 General Sherman announced that all militia must report back home within 24 hours or face punishment............................ On December 12th 1865 President Lincoln issued Order No 93-6 which called for all military personnel now within Union Territories subject to martial law...............Today we remember those who gave their lives serving our great nation through service in uniform

Parker, Colorado is located in the lower Rio Grande Valley and was formally organized on November 16, 1876. Parker's population as of the 2010 census was 936. The town center is located just south of Interstate 25 and east of I-25A. The first settler in what would become Parker was José María de Jesús Rojas who arrived in 1875 from Zacatecas, Mexico. He named his land San Diego County after himself and his brother Fernando de Jesús Rojas, who had also come from Zacatecas. On October 1, 1876, a group of men led by Captain Arthur A. McFarlane laid out a townsite called Parker on northeast corner of present day Fraser Street and Alameda Street (now US Highway 6). It was one mile wide at its widest point and ran for three miles north to south with a half mile eastern boundary running along now Harper Road. The Town Site Committee recommended that the name be changed to "Parkser" after Captain McFarlane's assistant brevet officer for military affairs General Ross Bowie who had acted as their delegate at the organization meeting held at Fort Garland on November 16th including most important people such as McDowell and Cooke It wasn’t until 1889 when John Hargrave purchased 320 acres adjacent to the original townsite - much of it still within today’s town limits - which he donated to Parkersville Cemetery Company because he felt its location near Frisco made it an ideal place for burials not only for local citizens but also visiting military families during wartime service or illnesses abroad
In 1876, Colorado became one of the United States of America. The state was created from a portion of the Mexican land that had been seized by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1846. A year later, on July 1, 1876, the area now comprising Parker was organized as a town. The first post office in Parker opened on November 15, 1876. The population of the town was only five people when it began to grow rapidly due to increased trade with neighboring towns and businesses in eastern Colorado. By 1886, parker had a population of over 100 people and it quickly became an important center for commerce and industry in the region. One of the most significant events in Parker's history came during World War I when many residents decided to provide their services within the military effort. They made contributions such as buying food, supplies and uniforms for soldiers stationed throughout western Colorado. In 1918, they also donated money towards construction of Fort Carson which then became one of Denver's main military installations
