The first Coast Guard station in Parker was established in 1909. In 1924, the Coast Guard Station at Parker became a full-time unit and was known as the Harbor Division. The first officers of the Harbor Division were: Captain James W. Kellar, Lieutenant Harry A. Cavanaugh, and Sergeant John J. Sellers. The Coast Guard Station at Parker played an important role in providing law enforcement services to the community and also helped to maintain order during prohibition times. In 1951,Captain Lester Fenton was appointed Commandant of the Coast Guard Station at Parker and served until his retirement in 1970. In 1969,the Park Service opened a new Administration Building on Main Street which housed Headquarters for both the Park Service and the Coast Guard Station at Parkland (later renamed Marine Corps Air Ground Forces BaseParker). In 1978, Commodore Donald Haggerty assumed command of the Park Service from Commodore Al Watkins Jr.. From 1984 to 1990 Commodore Haggerty served as Superintendent of Fisheries & Wildlife Conservation District No. 6 within Colorado State Parks system In 1992, after serving as Secretary of Commerce under President Clinton, Edwin Meese III took over as administrator for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency's Port Security Section within CBP which included responsibility for security along America's southern border with Mexico With increased activity along America's southwestern border with Mexico due to NAFTA negotiations between Canada and Mexico City that were taking place during Meese's term there began plans by then-Governor Gary Johnson to create a new state park dedicated specifically to saving Mexican Beach from development - this would be called "Baja California National Monument" Commander Bruce Fraser announced on October 21st 1994 that Coast Guardsmen will no longer be needed at Mexican Beach effective November 1st1994 Ranger Sonny Beattie who had been working near Mexican Beach since early morning Informally closed down all accesses when I returned from my vacation ended up being paid by concessionaire so he could continue working long past his contract time limit

Parker is a small, western town located in the Clear Creek Sheridan County seat. The population was 787 at the 2010 census. The Parker-Broomfield School District serves students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The first settler in Parker was Nathan Smith who came to the area in 1868. In 1875, John Parker and his family settled on a farm near the present day intersection of U.S. Route 6 and Highway 191A (now Colorado State Routes 129 and 191A). In 1888, Nathan's son John married Mary Jane (née Swenson) of nearby Broomfield. They had six children: four daughters and two sons, before Mary Jane died in 1907. Nathan then married Eliza Cook (1859-1941), daughter of Major James Cook of Cache Valley, Ariz., on September 10, 1889 at Baca Park northeast of town. Four daughters followed: May 14, 1890; Alice Nayloe Cooke (born October 4, 1892); Nellie Mae Cook (born December 5, 1895); and Addie Ruth Cook (born January 3, 1897). Nathan's widow also raised seven grandchildren until her death in 1941 from cancer at age 73 years old. After she passed away Jonell Hilliard succeeded her as headmistress of the local school district which he founded with other educators following World War II when all public schools were closed for lack of supplies due to shortages caused by the war economy. With such scarce resources many schools closed throughout Colorado during that time including Parker Schools where Mrs Hilliard continued to operate until 1951 when it became part of Canyon Ranch School District #2 upon its merger with Clear Creek Sheridan County school districts #1 & 2 Hillard also served as Superintendent from 1951-1977 while his wife operated Canyon Ranch High School until its closure after 64 years OF OPERATIONS! Today there are no high school students living within driving distance so Mrs Hilliard has donated land adjacent to Canyon Ranch Middle School which will house a charter program for younger students starting next fall allowing girls access to an education beyond Simply Elementary/High Schools! This event occurred just days after Mrs Hilliard’s 93rd Birthday Celebration!
The Coast Guard has been a part of the United States government since 1790. In 1924, the Coast Guard was created as an umbrella organization for all the various law enforcement agencies that had been established along America’s coastline. The first uniformed coast guard officers were sworn in on July 1, 1924. The Coast Guard today is one of the most diverse and powerful organizations in America, with more than 28,000 members across its five service branches: water patrol; aviation; search and rescue; and marine mammal services. The Coast Guard's history goes back to 1790 when Captain John Smith sailed past Cape Horn on his way to find new land in North America. He noted that the coasts of South America and Mexico looked "very long" while those of Australia and New Zealand appeared "short." The captain called this region "the Great Western Ocean," which it remains today. In 1795, Rear Admiral Richard Howe sent Lieutenant John Furse on a reconnaissance voyage along coastal California's Long Beach Peninsula to investigate reports of Russian ships attempting to enter US waters. On July 9,1795, Furse sighted a Russian ship coming out from behind Point Reyes National Seashore and ran towards her in order to report her presence to Howe. However, when he got too close for comfort, the Russians fired upon him with cannonballs as he approached shore! This event is widely considered to be the beginning of modern coast guard activity in North America! In 1807 Commodore James Cook anchored at Tahiti after sailing around Cape Horn looking for new land route between Asia and Europe. While ashore technicians aboard Cook's ship discovered an oil well at sea which they proceeded to explore further using their boats and cannons. Soon thereafter they found gas reserves (and later oil) beneath the surface! This discovery led directlyto American control over oceanic petroleum resources- something that would play an important role during both World War I AND World War II! During World War I Germany began attacking US shipping off Newfoundland coast but US Navy destroyed all German warships save one () which then surrendered unconditionally on October 10th 1917 (). As a result of this battle League Of Nations was founded with president Woodrow Wilson assigned as Generalissimo (). After WWI ended Russia still controlled Baltic Sea so we needed help from Allies not only because Baltics were strategic but also because Bolshevik Revolution happened there!!! On Saturday 3rd Nov 1922 USS Constitution (CGN-8) arrived at Havana Harbor from St Petersburg loaded with men refugees fleeing Spanish Civil War who had landed there by boat weeks earlier on October 25th 1921 following failed attempt by Spanish forces under General Primo de Rivera to retake Cuba from Bolsheviks!!! When Constitution reached Havana Harbor Assistant Commandant William Atherton boarded her as Acting Commander Ulysses S Grant informed him that President Coolidge had ordered him!!!!! Continuing his story Assistant Commander Atherton said “You will be interested in knowing that our Government has never before agreed or taken any action whatever against Cubans who have come here seeking refuge from war….” From now until God knows what time…Atherton spent most days driving these refugees hither & yon throughout Florida Keys trying fruitlesslyto get them into some other vessel….. finally he succeeded about 2 days ago when SS Manhattan arrived bearing 350+ Cubans!!
The United States Coast Guard was established in 1790 as a result of the Second Continental Congress's resolution that "the inland navigation and commerce of the United States be maintained with all practicable promptitude" by creating a navy to supplement the army. The first coast guard vessels were built at Norfolk, Virginia, in 1792. The U.S. Coast Guard has since grown to include over 30,000 personnel including more than 12,000 officers and specialists.
In 1876, while working as a miner in the Parkersburg area of western Colorado, James W. Parker discovered gold on the surface of what is now known as Golden Valley. His discovery led to the development of Parker County, and his name has been attached to many aspects of its history. Parker was born in 1793 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, one of four children of John Parker and Nancy (Nelson) Parker. The family moved to Adams County, Ohio when James was just sixteen months old. He worked as a blacksmith and wagon driver before moving west in 1827 to become a miner with the Thornton Mine Company. In 1849, after being employed by various companies for several years, James W. Parker became owner and operator of the Parker Pacific Mining and Manufacturing Company at Eagle Lake in central Parkersburg Township. The company developed what is now known as Golden Valley into one of the most productive silver mines on the continent. In 1860, he partnered with Hiram Sibley to open what is today called Sibley National Forest near Eagle Lake; it was here that they began developing land eastward from their mine site for an new park that would eventually become Golden Valley State Park
Parker was founded in 1876 by John Parker, a Scottish miner who had come to the United States to prospect for coal. The town grew quickly, and in 1916 it became a city. By 1920, Parker had become one of the wealthiest cities in Colorado.
