The town was named after Tom Parker's father-in-law John A. Parker, who had moved from Illinois to become a rancher in central Colorado. John A. Parker had two sons - Tom (Tommy) and Bill - and they all became involved in various aspects of local life at various points during their fathers' careers as farmers/ ranchers/ville officials. One such event occurred on November 10th, 1907 when Tommy Parker married Edith May Swenson at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church - only four weeks after his father-in-law had founded Parker! The couple would eventually have six children: five boys (Billie, Clint, Craig & Randy), plus Edith's daughter Louise (1910-1985). As Parker grew larger than it originally did - encompassing more than one million people by 1980 - some residents began to take issue with its growth potential. In order to address this issue head on, referendum ballots were placed throughout the town regarding proposed zoning changes that would've increased PARKER's population size from 1,500 to 5 thousand residents! Despite being narrowly defeated by just fifty votes out of seventy-two cast (thanks largely to opposition from businesses within the newly enlarged community), these proposals represented an important step forward forParker as it embarked upon its current journey towards becoming one of America's most vibrant municipalities!
