In November of 2017, Marines deployed to Parker Colorado as part of the multinational Operation Inherent Resolve. The deployment was in support of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and consisted of 3 battalions of Marines. The battalion deploying to Parker is 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment. This battalion is made up of approximately 350 Marines who are based out of Camp Pendleton in California and will be joined by 2 other battalions over the course of the next few months.

Parker, Colorado is a small town in the U.S. state of Colorado that is located in Arapaho County. The population was 1,341 at the 2010 census. Parker was founded by fur trappers in 1859 and named for John P. Parker, a landowner who donated the land on which the town sits. The firstPost Office at Parker opened on October 26, 1860. The first settler to arrive in what is now Parker was Fenton Gentry on December 8, 1859. Gentry and his family were the first people to inhabit what would become Parkersburg Township. By 1870, there were over 50 families living in Parkersburg Township and it had a schoolhouse and three stores. From here, growth could be seen as early settlers began moving into other parts of Arapaho County to begin their own communities: Fort Lyon (1871), Eagar (1872), Rocky Ford (1873), Thornton (1875), etc., all within 100 miles of where they lived or had resources available them such as water or grazing lands that allowed for farming.[1] In 1876-77 an Act of Congress designated −4 square miles (10 km2) of present day Arapaho County as Kanabezie Indian Reservation for the Cheyenne, Arapaho and Sioux nations under terms of Executive Order 9190 which also granted Native American hunting rights along with certain scenic areas including those around present day Parkersburg Township including Lookout Mesa National Monument and Black Mesa Wildlife Refuge among others[2]. This area included much of what is now east Parkersburg Township and much of today’s west side except for portions located near Keystone Lake; some 20 miles north-northwest from downtown Parkersburg[3],[4]. This act effectively ceded ownership of most if not all white settlement outside Kanabezie Indian Reservation boundaries to reservation natives thus perpetuating one form or another contact between white settlers/ ranchers/ farmers/ miners/ fishermen etc., subsequent to their original purchase or occupancy thereof until termination following World War II when most remaining reservations were either dismantled or turned over to control by various government agencies following noted promises made during earlier bickering amongst various First Nations groups regarding their respective future location within Canada should that nationever enter into war with the United States[5],[6],[7][8] Notwithstanding this history significant changes have occurred since then making PARKER an established community once again clasping its hands together surrounds it as does tightknit relationships between its residents[9] -a palpable sense brought about by parkertown's dedication towards preserving parkertown's unique character which has slowly grown more apparent overtime
