Navy Gift History in Parker, Colorado began with the purchase of a small cabin on the edge of town in 1949. The first Navy gift was a set of sailboat anchors from England, which were used to moor the cabin and dock the boat. The gift was followed by a Kit Kat bar from England in 1951. A Hawaiian shirt and hat were purchased in 1953 and 1954 respectively. A stereo system was purchased in 1957 and 1959. An electrician’s tape measure was bought in 1961 and 1962. In 1963, an old fishing net from England was purchased as a gifts for two friends who had just moved to town from out of state. In 1965, donations came flooding into the store when someone found a cross off of a cliff behind the store and brought it inside to show off to customers. That year also saw purchases of several kitchen items including cookbooks, pots and pans, Utensils, cups & saucers etc., as well as an oven - this one being donated by local woman Betty Bowers who ran her own bakery at that time. In 1966-1967 we made donations towards building costs for new stores that would open up around town - our first store being built on State Street (now First Avenue). These new stores offered more variety than ever before so it is no surprise that some major purchases during this time include an IBM computer ( donated by Mrs John Watson) in 1967; an air conditioner (from Canada) in 1968; leather couch/sofa (from Florida) in 1969; refrigerator (from Illinois) in 1970; dishwasher(from Illinois) in 1971; TV sets (from California)in 1972-1973; Furniture Store IKEA furniture arrived 1976-1977 along with other various items not mentioned here such as clocks, bookshelf etc...In 1978 we added another store on South Lamar Blvd which served as our main outlet until our closure ca 1982 when original owner passed away
Parker is a small town in Eagle County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Westminster-Aurora-Lakewood, CO metropolitan area. Parker is located on the south side of Park City and has an elevation of 4,059 feet (1,280 m). In terms of economic activity, Parker is primarily a farming community with wheat and other grain crops as well as livestock production. The town also manufactures items such as tractors and home builders' supplies. The first settler in what would become Parker was George Armstrong who arrived in 1872. Parker post office opened in 1880. A school was built in 1886 and served until 1949 when it moved to Aurora. The post office closed again in 1957 but reopened under new name Park City Post Office on May 12th that year. The townsite was platted by John Haferty who named it after his wife's maiden name Laura Ingalls Wilder which he had met while working for J P Morgan's railroad company during the gold rush days in central Colorado. As can be seen from the map below, there are several locations where this name could be used including: "Haferty", "Ingalls", or "Wilder". In 1907 Oscar Rickenbacker bought 640 acres (250 ha) near what would later become Park City for $10 per acre from David Wetherbee and developed it into a cattle ranch known as Rickenbacker Ranch which still operates today In 1912 pharmacist Drs Frederick Sanger purchased additional land east of park city from Wetherbee & Company for $10 per acre After many years of development work by local farmers through their own teams Drs Sanger Nursery built one mile long row of white stuccoed fence housing over 100 apple trees on land now occupied by IHOP restaurant
