Pueblo is a city in the U.S. state of Colorado, located on the Pecos River. As of the 2010 census, the population was 915. The name "Pueblo" may be derived from one or more Pre-Columbian Arapaho word puhl-e-wah ( meaning 'village') and/or puhl-eh-wah (meaning 'settlement'). It took its current form by combining two earlier names: Pee Wee Town and Checotah Village. The first Europeans to visit what is now Pueblo were Spanish adventurers in 1610 who named it San Miguel de Allende after their patron saint, Mexico City's Miguel Ancelmo de la Torre. In 1797, United States Captain John Black used Pueblo as his base while exploring the Arkansas Frontier; he called it Boulder because of some boulders he found there. When American General Andrew Jackson invaded Mexico in 1847 during Mexican War II, he ordered his army to stop at Carlsbad Caverns near modern Albuquerque before moving on to Santa Fe. There was much fighting at Carlsbad between American forces and Mexican irregulars, and black soot from burning buildingspresumedly drifted down the Rio Grande to America's new frontier town (). In 1851–52 Congress passed an act providing for a public school system in this territory; Pueblo County schools opened Sept 25th, 1855 under Superintendent John Wickersham (). After years of organizing efforts led by James Fenton (), a group of merchants founded what became known as The Republic School District in 1907 (). By 1912 there were over 1,000 students attending these schools (). Today many residents still attend public school but village status has been granted to certain villages within San Juan County such as Coyotecito which joined the district in 1978 When oil began flowing through New Mexico Territory into Colorado proper in 1908, oil companies developed leases along both sides of the Animas River east of Denver (). westward they leased land that included part or all of present day Pueblo In 1914 Clyde Ewing started developing lands that would become Keystone Ranch () about 3 miles south of where modern downtown Pueblo sits today Ewing had been interested in hydraulic fracturing (fracking), a method for extracting natural gas from shale formations since his days working for Standard Oil Company executives trying to break open those same formations with explosives

And now, with the 50th anniversary of the USAF stationed at Kirtland AFB, we are remembering some of the more notable deployments throughair force gifted history. On July 20, 1962, U2 pilot Francis Gary Powers was shot down over Cuba and crashed into an uninhabited island near Key West. With no survivors and little hope for rescue or return home, President John F Kennedy ordered Operation Mongoose – code name for the USAF deployment of 53 C-5 Galaxy cargo planes containing food and other supplies to be dropped on the island – to try and find Powers and his craft. The mission didn’t go according to plan; when Cuban soldiers discovered the planes were there they killed all but one plane occupant before allowing any survivors back onto shore. In fact, it was only after prolonged negotiation by Fidel Castro that Powers finally returned home alive on October 16th two years later. In 1965 U2 Pilot Edward Whitehurst flew his Boeing 727 on a secret reconnaissance mission over North Vietnam which helped lead to Nixon's announced 'War On Poverty'. Whitehurst also flewPresident Lyndon Johnson on his last trip around America before he died in office in 1969. This particular deployment marked another significant moment in USAF gift history as it was one of only three times that airborne troops had been used in an American foreign conflict (the second being Desert Storm). It is also interesting to note that Robert McNamara became president following Eisenhower's death just four months prior to this specific event. Pueblo, Colorado is a small city in the U.S. state of Colorado. It is the seat for Pueblo County and has a population of about 45,000 people as of 2017. The name "Pueblo" means "township." The first permanent European settlement in what is now Pueblo was made by priests in 1540 during the Gold Rush era. On October 14, 1857, when California became a state, Pueblo became part of that state, and then it became an incorporated municipality on January 1, 1868. In 1861 the United States Post Office was established at Pueblo and mail continued to be delivered by stagecoach until 1945. The first hospital in town was built in 1865 by Drs. George Custer and Charles Mapes with support from Indian traders John Chivington and Cayuga Chief Manuelito (Arapaho). A second hospital was built in 1869 by Jethro Gibbs with help from Captain James Waugh of The Pony Express fame; this building served as both an infirmary and jail until 1954 when it burned down. In 1907 the first electric lightbulbs were installed in town; electricity wasn't available until 1925-1927. In 1916-1920 one out of every five jobs in town was done by women including numerous garment workers at The Palace Theatre which still stands today as a business district commercial center for the city center area around it Finally on November 5th 1922 Mayor Harry Ahern proclaimed November 5th “Pioneer Day” recognizing all those who had played significant rolesblowing torchlights through downtown windows to commemorate this holiday special event .On April Fool's day 1933 Happy Days opened at The Palace Theatre after being acquired by Texaco who renamed it Western Star Theater followed quickly by El Paso.. In 1935 two new high school buildings were built - Park View High School (now Bennett Middle School) and Ridgeview High School (). One year later Mesa Community College opened its doors at 7th Avenue and State Streets making Pueblo one college town ; Mesa Community College remains open today

They lived on the mountain ranges that form much of today’s Rockies, and their culture influenced those around them for centuries. The first Europeans to visit the region were Spanish explorers in 1524, who named it after a small town in Mexico called Puebla. The area was again explored by US officers during the Mexican-American War in 1846, and they named the locality Rocky Ford because of its high hills. In 1869, gold was discovered near Pueblo, and soon afterward a large population of Puebloan Americans began to settle there. By 1900, over 60% of all Colorado residents werePuebloan Americans. Many small villages continued to exist until the early 21st century; however, most have been abandoned or dismantled because of development pressures.
