The Colorado Air National Guard's 375th Fighter Wing is one of the state's most active wings. It has been here since 1941 and its fighter pilots have helped keep Colorado safe for over sixty years. This wing gave birth to the Pueblo-based 2nd Lieutenant Jeffrey S. Wirth in 1984, who became a part of the unit in 1986. Today, there are over 350 fighter pilots and airmen from throughout the state who serve with the 375th FW.

Air Force gift history can be traced back to the early days of air service. The USAF was founded in 1947 as the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE). It initially consisted of a small force of bombers and fighter planes. In 1954, the USAF reactivated its bomber wing, the Eighth Air Force, which became known as the "Flying Tigers." By 1957, however, NATO had formed and RAF fighter squadrons were transferred from USAAFE to NATO. As a result, USAAFE was disbanded and its assets administratively reassigned to RAFE. In 1959, USAF reactivated its aerial reconnaissance wing called Sensorium. This unit comprised KC-135 Stratofortress aircraft and their crews performed worldwide photographic intelligence gathering operations over land and at sea. From 1965 through 1969, Sensorium operated both HC-130 Hercules aircraft equipped with "No visible enemies" sensors and synthetic aperture Radar (SAR) imagery receivers specifically designed for airborne mapping of hostile terrain using radar reflectivity data acquired by these devices. SAR images would then be analyzed for enemy activity by ground commanders who could use this information to make informed decisions about where troops should be sent or what munitions should be dropped etc. These capabilities continued until 1989 when USAFactivated Sensorium's successor organization known as Aerial Intelligence Command (AIC). AIC is responsible for providing forecasts of weather conditions over airspace above Japan which are used by Japanese airspace control authorities in order to determine whether or not they need to exercise enhanced warning or protection measures against potential threats such as bird or thunderstorms etc. On 1 April 1994 AIC was merged with Japan Ground Self Defense Force’s Countermeasures Division into Headquarters United States Air Forces Pacific under commander Lieutenant General Arnold Jumper III AFB Hawaii
