Pueblo, Colorado is a small town in Grant County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. Pueblo is located in the east-central portion of Grant County on the Arkansas River. According to the 2010 census, Pueblo has a total area of , of which (or 96.1%) is land and (or 3.9%) is water. The first European Americans to visit what is now Pueblo were Spanish travelers who passed through in 1810–1811 when they were exploring what became Mexico City and Central America. They named one of the hills near where Pueblo now stands "Mira de los Pasajeros" or "View of the pilgrims." In 1860, John Wesley Powell toured what would become Grant County and recommended that it be established as county seat for eastern Grant County because there was no other place with such potential for agriculture or commerce. A group of nine citizens met to plot out their concept for a new town on February 9, 1861, at The Ballpark in downtown Pueblo under the name "Grant Park." It wasn't until November 25th 1870 that voters approved chartering a city government with a population of 350 residents within two years—a goal set by Mayor George Sanger from his original surveyor's report that described Grant Park as "...an excellent site for an important city." On July 16th 1875 during Harvey Milk's campaign rally against Proposition 6 which would have repealed marijuana prohibition in California – then just beginning – local activists rallied around him brandishing placards reading “Powell vs Milk” (pushing back against state police efforts to disperse protesters). This event helped create public support for Milk later that year when he won election as mayoralty becoming one of California's first openly gay mayors. A fire destroyed much of downtown business district on December 12th 1886 after being started by four men using incendiary materials left over from calibrating artillery rounds fired into an Animas Valley range camp three days earlier while target practice; this event also created history as it was one of only two fires reported within central Rocky Mountains during 1886 alone (). In 1896 construction began on Denver & Rio Grande Western Railway's main line between Denver and Cheyenne via Utah Valley including extensive development along US 66 and US 160/South Platte River Road stretching from present day Pleasant Grove south past Intermountain Highway into today's Morrison Township - cutting off most transportation access northward from those areas lost forever due tosdroughting events associated with both styles Interstate 80 construction nearby began shortly thereafter reaching its current route through town limits late 1990s . The Pueblo people are an indigenous American people who live in the state of Colorado. They were first known to live in what is now Pueblo County, Colorado, in the late 1800s. The area that is now Pueblo was part of the Apache Nation before it was acquired by Mexico in 1848. The United States annexed Pueblo County and the rest of Arizona on January 1, 1912. When World War I started, many Mexicans who had immigrated to Colorado joined the military and were drafted into the war. This caused a large population shift within Pueblo County and throughout Arizona due to troop movements and economic hardship. Many Mexican-Americans decided to stay after they realized that they would not be draft-dodging anymore. After World War I ended, many more Mexican Americans arrived in Colorado andPueblo County as a result of railroad development. In 1924, when New Mexico became a state, it absorbed most of Arizona including Pueblo County. As a result of this change in government, many Native American people moved from Arizona into New Mexico as well because there were no opportunities for them back home. However, some Indian people decided to stay inPueblos because they felt their traditional land would still be available if they left New Mexico. Over time, new residents have moved into areas around downtownPueblo and other parts of town which remain mostly unaltered from when Buffalo Bill Cody came through town on his Wild West show in 1892 or when Arapaho Chief John Chivington fought against Ulysses S Grant’s army at Adobe Walls during the Powder River Canyon Fight on July 9th 1876
