Pueblo, Colorado is a town in San Miguel County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,661 at the 2010 census. The Pueblo region was first settled by the Anasazi people in the late 1800s. The area now comprising Pueblo and Arapahoe counties was first settled by Native Americans during the 18th century as part of their seasonal round-up operations. The town prospered for many years, but then began to decline after Indian raids started in the early 18th century. In 1777, a group of English settlers arrived in Pueblo and began to trade with the local Indians. This led to a surge of prosperity for Pueblo and its inhabitants, but also increased tensions between the English and Mexican populations. After several skirmishes between British settlers and Mexican troops, Mexico declared war on England in 1780. For four years, Mexico fought off English attacks while England conducted raids into Mexican territory. In 1784, Mexico signed a peace treaty with Britain that recognized Spain's control over central America. With this agreement came an end to hostilities between Mexico and England; however, relations between both countries remained tense until 1821 when they finally solved their differences through Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
