By November 1886 19 outlying villages had consolidated into Downtown Pueblo under one roof:[7]: residential areas extended eastward past Market Street towards Grant Avenue and southward along Durango Creek towards Canon City; commercial districts stretched westward from First Streets northwards along Cherry Creek towards Interstate 25; light industrial areas lay southeast from I-25 between Cherry Creek Road (now called Everson Rd.)and Broadway Boulevard

Pueblo, Colorado was founded in 1810 by the Pueblo Missionaries. The first permanent settler in what is now Pueblo was José de Escobar. He and his family arrived on July 10, 1810, after traveling through Mexico andNew Mexico. They built a small cabin near what is now the airport. In 1812, they organized a band of around 50 men to journey south to Santa Fe to trade goods for food and horses. The group eventually disbanded because of lack of supplies and money. In 1813,Escobar married María Antonia Vallejo y Castilla; together they had six children. In 1840, when Colorado became part of United States, the town site that includes present-day Pueblo was platted by James Braidwood as surveyor for the new state.
