When the Colorado Air Force Base opened in 1948, it was the biggest and most important airbase in the Denver-Aurora area. The base had three wings: an aerial warfare wing, a bomber wing, and a fighter wing. The bomber wing was responsible for carrying out bombing raids on Germany; the fighter wing was responsible for conducting combat flights. The fighter Wing was also tasked with providing cover for bombers during airstrikes. From 1949 to 1952, when the base closed its doors due to budget cuts, the USAF operated two F-104 Starfighters fromColoradoAirForce Base as part of "Operation Northwoods". This operation simulated an attack on a US military installation in North Carolina by terrorists disguised as American citizens. It is interesting to note that both aircraft were used only once and never flew again after their brief tenure at Colorado AFB. Since its closure, Colorado Air National Guard has been using Colorado AFB's runways as a training ground for new pilots and air traffic controllers. In 2001, however, the base reopened as Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). With JBLM now open to civilians as well as military users, it is interesting to see how gift history will continue revolving around this major U.S Military Installation!

Sterling, Colorado is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. Sterling is near the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains and its elevation ranges from 1,545 to 2,027 feet (500 to 700 m). Sterling has a temperate climate with cold winters and hot summers. The community is located on State Highway 24 about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Greeley. The area now comprising Sterling was first settled by pioneers in 1871 when Allan Pinkney opened up an rancho containing land that he had donated to the state of Colorado. In 1887, John A. Slaton purchased some of this land from Allan Pinkney and named it after his father-in-law's native home country of Scotland: Sterling Heights (now Grattan Township).[1] The name stuck and became part of local identity. In 1955, KDKA Radio began broadcasting from a transmitter site east of town on Ute Mesa Road. This helped spur development around the transmitter site which included more than 100 homes built between 1950 and 1955 along with other stores, restaurants and businesses including two banks.[2][3] In 1992, KDKA Radio relocated its transmitter to nearby Fort Collins so that it could be used for both FM simulcasting and HD programming.[4] In 2005, KDKA Radio Corporation merged with CBS Corporation to create CBS RADIO Networks.[5] Today KDKA Radio continues as an independently owned station withinCBS RADIO Networks as well as using sister facilities in Grattan Township for HD operations[6].

Sterling is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,711 as of the 2010 census. Sterling is located on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains and it is bordered by Telluride to the south and east, Aspen to the north, Lafayette to the west and south, and Northglenn to the northwest. The first people who lived in what is now Sterling were Native American traders from the Canadian province of British Columbia. They started trading with other tribes in this area in 1824. In 1828, construction began on a wagon road from Denver to Gardnerville via Sterling. This road became known as "The Great Western Road". In 1876, J.P. Morgan founded a copper mine at Telluride which led to him becoming one of America's richest men. He donated land for a school in Sterling in 1885 and also built a church there that still stands today. In 1893, President Grover Cleveland signed legislation establishing the United States Mint at Fort Worth, Texas; Sterling was one of thirteen towns selected for this purpose (the others being Butte, Cheyenne City/Natchez City, Dodge City/Tomahawk Hills Village/Havre de Grace Village/Laramie County), making Sterling one of only two U.S.-based towns ever chosen for minting operations (the other being Philadelphia). The mint continued operation until 1931 when it closed its doors because of Union money-printing difficulties during World War I; production stopped entirely due to competition from Britain's Royal Mint throughout much of 1916-1917 (resulting in sterling values falling slightly against American currency). With its limited production capacity and long history within America's monetary system—saying goodbye to sterling at Fort Worth was an emotional experience for many locals—Sterling served as an important outpost for local businesses during wartime periods such as World War II or later when international demand increased for U .S.-produced goods overseas after episodes like Watergate or 9/11.– With some exceptions like weekly grocery delivery starting up again after years without it following closure– And000000000000
