The Coast Guard was first established in 1915 as the Harbor Defenses Department of the Colorado State Legislature. The organization grew rapidly during World War I, and by 1924 it had become a separate department under the state government. In 1933, California joined the United States, and after their passage of the National Defense Act, the Coast Guard became part of the newly created USCG. At this time, its mission was to maintain maritime security within and across U.S. waters. In 1964, Congress passed an act which gave the Coast Guard jurisdiction over all inland waterways within 100 miles of shorelines in every state except Alaska and Hawaii. This new authority made coastal communities throughout America much more vulnerable to attack by pirates or terrorists who could operate from remote locations. To meet this challenge, the Coast Guard began developing a coast guard gift history that would reflect these changing times. Beginning in 1967, gifts were given to members of Congress in commemoration of our nation’s birthday – November 4th – as part of our year-round holiday season tradition. These gifts included items such asamerican flags and patriotic song lyrics; sailors’ uniforms; books onshore safety;and commemorative coins or tokens bearing messages about coastal defense or maritime safety. Gifts also often included inscribed bottles or cans filled with seafood products from local fishing fleets or local seafood retailers. The Commandant of Customs Bureau oversees all aspects of maritime law enforcement within the United States Border Patrol Sector which includes both land-based and sea-based activities

Superior is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,936 at the 2010 census. Superior was founded in 1876 by settlers from eastern Colorado and named after General George Armstrong Custer, who had died in 1878 while serving in the Indian Wars. The first post office called Superior was established in 1877. In 1895, the name of the town was changed to Superior-Lakewood to reflect its growing relationship with Lakewood. At that time, it remained one of only two towns in Weld County without a city charter and as such limited economic development. In 2000, Superior voters approved an amendment to their city charter that allowed for the annexation of neighboring unincorporated communities (Algonquin Park and Brighton Beach) into the town limits. After years ofipping and tugging at Boundary Bay Naval Station on the southern edge of town until finally successful construction of a mothballed destroyer moored there during 2013-14 responded to what had been becoming an increasingly unbearable commuting situation for many residents culminating with a series of protests which led to several arrests; however no annexation happened In recent years there has been progress made: -The new library opened in 2016 -A new elementary school opened within walking distance of most businesses and services in 2017 -A new high school is being built just east of town on land donated by Lakewood Ranch & Associates LP which includes nearly 4 acres adjacent to Interstate 25

By the late 1800s, Superior had a few stores, a school, and some homes. The town's growth continued into the 1920s when it became an incorporated municipality. The post-World War II boom brought more development to Superior with new housing and businesses coming online. By the 1990s, most of what remained of Superior had been replaced by suburbs or other rural communities.
