Superior, Colorado is a town in Pueblo County, Colorado, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous community in Pueblo County. The name "Superior" was chosen to honor General of the Armies Roy J. Bullock and his wife Anna Gertrude Superior who were both natives of this area. The first post office in Superior opened on July 20, 1892. In 1907, the town had a population of 1,425 and built its first school building which still stands today. In 1915, Superior erected its second school building which also remains standing today. In 1925, the city of Durango annexed part of Pueblo County and Superior became one of its wards; however it continued to have its own mayor and council until 1955 whenDurango took over all municipal functions within Pueblo County including Superior. In 1953-1955 the United States Congress passed Public Law 95-468 (the " Consolidated Appropriations Act", or "PA 95-468"), providing for the construction of an international border fence along what is now Interstate 25 between Mexico and Arizona; as a result of this law, much growth occurred in eastern Johnson County outside Durango due to annexation by Mexican City Juarez into Unincorporated Johnson County as well as other nearby municipalities such as Silverthorne and Canon City with no townships or villages therein existing prior to 1959 when these annexations were made possible by PA 95-468. This has resulted in a very large suburban development adjacent to Indian Creek Reservoir east of Durango since that time especially near milepost 259 on I-25 where there are now numerous high schools (Alamo HS/SRP ASU Westminster HS Red Hills HS) middle schools (Southwest Junior HS/JRHS Rio Grande Valley HS), elementary schools (Popejoye Elementary School & Parkview Middle School),and two shopping malls - Supervalu Plaza located adjacent to I-25 Exit 257 off US 36 southbound about 12 miles east from Durango downtown limits while EMC mall located just northwest(exit 258) off I-25 exit 249 approximately 15 miles southeast from downtown limits across State Route 24 across from White Sands Missile Range - not including any incorporated villages situated within Johnson County boundaries since those annexations have been accomplished without any action on the part of local government authorities

Superior, Colorado is a town located in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 1,992 at the 2010 census. Superior first received its name from General James A. Garfield, who named it for his superior officer Major-General George Armstrong Custer during the Dakota War of 1862. The town was founded in 1887 by Denver businessmen John W. Bennett and William Irvine as a dry goods store and post office on the edge of what is now Northglenn. In 1912, Superior added a community hall to its mix and quickly became an established mining center due to its rich gold deposits around Butte Creek mineral well No. 1 (now known as Keystone Mine). Despite this wealth, development stagnated until the early 1920s when new railroad developments increased traffic and prices in general throughout the region; resulting in more businesses opening up along Butte Creek Rd., pushing Superior into high-density development with multiple subdivisions and new schools being built nearby such as Manor Park Elementary School and Lighthouse School District #1 High School (now called King Middle School). In the late 1960s through 1970s Many people were moving out of towns all over Colorado because of Proposition 13 which passed in 1976 making it illegal for any municipality to raise taxes above 4% on taxable incomes exceeding $50,000 per year; consequently many small towns like Superior went through hard times due to lack of economic opportunity within their borders despite having strong historical values that set them apart from other communities across the state. However, since then several redevelopment projects have taken place downtown including partial demolition of buildings dating back to 1911 which has resulted in creating brand new retail venues overlooking Butte Creek Rd.; while also providing affordable housing options for local residents displaced by recent construction projects outside of town limits
