A new shopping mall called "Superior Place" opened in 1984 adjacent to Interstate 25 south of town; it quickly became America's leading center for malls outside urban areas because of its wide variety and high quality selections from a variety of brands including Macy's and Sears Roebuck & Company. Today this complex continues to be Didion Shopping Center's primary anchor tenant as well as being home to several smaller retailers within walking distance such as Michaels Drug Store, Radio Shack and JCPenney (now Kohl's).

In 1916–17, construction began on what would become one of America's most famous reservoirs - Lakewood Reservoir – after residents responded to calls for help with their failing water system. Today Superior is home to many recreational activities such as fishing, hunting/gathering,,kayaking/canoeing etc., making it one of the most popular places to live in western Colorado Springs neighborhood called "Lakewood."
On May 24, 1876, the first Superior school opened in the town. The post office was established in 1877 and mail was brought to Superior from Asotin and other settlements. In 1902, a sawmill was built on the South Platte River. In 1925, the first grocery store opened in Superior. The townspeople started a fire department in 1934. A hospital was built in 1937 and enlarged in 1945. The population of Superior increased significantly during World War II due to the influx of residents into the area for work at military bases and factories. In 1945, Superior's first library opened. The population declined during the postwar years as both farming and heavy industry lost popularity after World War II ended.
