The United States Army was founded on November 8, 1775, in Denver, Colorado. The first U.S. military action occurred when General George Washington and his army fought against the British forces at King’s Mountain in 1777. The American Revolution began on April 19, 1775, with the Declaration of Independence by Philadelphia merchants and political dissidents. On July 4, 1776, Continental Marines held an amphibious landing at Portsmouth (New Hampshire) to start the three-year war against Great Britain. On October 14, 1881, a detachment of soldiers from Fort Riley ( Kansas) marched into Westminster to present arms for Governor John Evans as part of a welcome ceremony for Major General James Haggerty who had just arrived from Mexico City with 1,500 enlisted men and 10 cannons to take over command of all U.S.- Mexican troops stationed in that area. At that time there were about 6 companies of infantry Battalion A and 2 companies Battalion C stationed in Westminster; all other units were garrisoned at Fort Riley or elsewhere along the Front Range Mountains near Denver. On February 15 1861 Colonel James Gorman ordered Company K2(9th Infantry), 9th Infantry Regiment outfitted with new heavy artillery pieces specifically designed for service in the Union Army during the Civil War: two Columbian 12-inch mortars and four 5-inch smoothbore guns completed May 1861; these guns could be brought up onto parade grounds quickly to fire salute when called upon by Generals Grant or Sheridan during their visits to visit Ft Riley or nearby camps/fortifications etc... On January 16 1865 Companies F & M(8th Cavalry) attached to 3rd Cavalry Division under orders of General Philip Sheridan moved into Westminster from Trinidad (Colorado). Headquarters company became known as “Haltom” while detachments E & K served as guards around Presbyterian Church on University Avenue which had been turned into a hospital since 1864 because of Indian raids thereabouts...The regular cavalry regiment disbanded on June 30 1865 due to continuous recruiting problems within its own ranks... reunion ceremonies were held at Ft Riley on September 13 1966 followed by a parade through downtown Wichita Falls escorted by Old Guard Troops from old Fort Worth barracks

The Westminster Colorado Army National Guard was founded on November 14, 1866. The first unit, the 12th Infantry Regiment, was organized on December 1, 1866. The regiment saw service in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. In 1898, the regiment fought in the Spanish-American War as part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 8th Infantry Division. On November 9, 1903, a new regiment was raised in Westminster Colorado and ordered to active duty in support of World War I. The 6th Cavalry Regiment was activated on January 16, 1917 and served until it disbanded on October 15, 1918. A new regiment was raised in Westminster Colorado and ordered to active duty in support of World War II on October 15, 1942. The 1st Battalion (7th Cavalry) were activated on September 3rd 1943 and served until they disbanded on June 30th 1945. On July 20th 1948 a new battalion (9th Cavalry) were created with headquarters at Fort Carson Wyoming under command of Colonel John Sledge III who later became Commanding General for all UMC units worldwide
Westminster is a town located in Clear Creek County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. Westminster was founded in 1876 by prospectors and farmers who were looking for land to mine ledges near the confluence of Clear Creek and Arapaho Rivers. In 1924, when Westminster incorporated as a municipality, it had a population of 605. By 2010, the population had grown to 1,871 people living in 906 individual households. Westminster is known for its agricultural production which includes hay, cottonseed oil and apples; its Presbyterian church has been around since 1892; and its annual “Faire on Main” attracts more than 100 vendors from all over Metro Denver who sell food from 10am to 4pm on Saturday morning.

However, because Westminster was so small, it quickly became an important local center for trade and commerce. In 1916, Westminster voted to become an incorporated city. Today, Westminster is home to a large number of businesses and government institutions including the City Council, the School Districts (including Westminster High School), several churches, and a few homes belonging to wealthy residents.
