Westminster is a small town in La Plata County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Collins–Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1868 by investors from Denver who bought land east of the Arkansas River. They named their community Westminster because it was then the largest town in La Plata County. In 1870, the first post office opened in Westminster and remained open until it closed on July 15, 1912. At that time, there were only a few families living in Westminster and most of its residents worked outside of the town limits. In 1890, John Wesley Dobson purchased 640 acres (248 ha) along the Arkansas River which he used for farming and grazing. He built a large white farmhouse which still stands today as Dobson House State Historic Site. In 1907, J D McDonald started marketing groceries to settlers in what is now Westminster. By 1922, McDonald had two stores located within walking distance of each other and also operated a truck stop near his store that served passengers travelling westward on US 12 across from Westminster High School. westminster co

Westminster, Colorado is a town located in the Mesa County seat of engine city. It was founded on November 12, 1907 by J. H. Ransom and A.F. Heiler with a population of four hundred and fifty-six people who named it for the then recently founded Parliament of the United Kingdom which met there that year. The first post office opened in 1909 and was known as Westminster Station. On January 1, 1912, Westminster became an incorporated village under the name of Brighton after two local businessmen donated land for a church and school from their own estates near Lobster Creek Bridge. In 1916, the name change to Westminster because it had been decided by a vote of residents that all other towns in Mesa County should be called Westminster too lest they become separate villages again like Brighton did before them (Heiler). On December 5, 1938, when Mesa County consolidated with neighboring Pueblo County to form New Mexico Territory, Westminster became part of this newly formed county as well along with other towns such as Deming and Rio Rancho (New Mexico). This consolidation left little impact on its history as most events occurred within either Mesa or Pueblo Counties themselves until New Mexico Territory was dissolved on July 14, 1959 when all but two of its constituent counties were abolished into Unified District No. 7 which included most of what is now Douglas County including Westminsteralong with many other municipalities which continued to exist but without any legal recognition until 1961 when they were reorganized into their present form (although some have since reverted back to their pre-New Mexico boundaries). In 1954, when Interstate 70 through Prescott Valley was built concurrent with Highway 10 bisecting the town center from east to west and creating an open-air shopping mall across Deming Street from the old Wesleyan Methodist Church site where shoppers had traditionally come to buy goods grown nearby at various Farmers Markets throughout the area since 1875 (the originalDEMING MARKET closed in 1977), much discussion took place over whether or not to rename downtown London after I-70 because there would be no provision for doing so within New Mexico Territory limits (a suggestion made by Mayor John Larkin) or move existing businesses/locations outside of town center onto I-10 so that commerce could take place more centrally within Prescott Valley rather than scattered around rural areas surrounding it like London did before she decommissioned in 1957 (A study done five years earlier estimated that if downtown London remained operational her retail market value would be $1 million per year!). The decision made by planners at the time not only allowed for further growth within Downtown London even if portions outside its limits were lost but also demonstrated how central business districts can serve as anchors for communities by attracting new businesses and helping keep older ones afloat while drawing attention away from less successful peripheral areas; something that has been replicated throughout Prescott Valley ever since Comprehensive Plan Review Committee decisions are made about future development patterns in our region.
