Westminster is a small town located in Arapaho County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Westminster is on the eastern edge of the Pueblo-Escalante National Monument and is home to the Elkhorn Mountains. The first Europeans to visit Westminster were Spanish conquistadors in 1598. The area that became Westminster was given to Englishman John Cope in 1869 by treaty as part of the Treaty of Fort Laramie. In 1876, pioneer James Waddell founded what would become known as Waddell's Store and Post Office here. In 1907, Westminster incorporated as a village under the name of "Westminster." It changed its name again in 1959 to honor then-Prime Minister Lord Disraeli who had visited Westminster during his tour of America. In January 1916, when World War I began, Westminster was one of many U.S.-occupied towns along the Mexican border that received military orders from General Pershing directing them not to fire upon any Mexicans or their allies until they had completed negotiations with Mexico City concerning some proposed changes inulate immigration laws which were opposed by many Anglo Americans living near hostilities zone boundaries while still nominally under Mexican rule; these orders have been called "The Pershing Order". On October 10th 1918 King George V visited London and attended an exposition at Earls Court Exhibition Ground where he saw machine guns being tested by British troops on a nearby hillock before making his way back into town for tea at The Crown building opposite Belgravia Road Station - this event has been referred to as 'The coronavirus parade'. This event also marked the end of world war I for both sides and ushered in another era characterized by increased American influence over Europe through lendlease operations such as Operation Paperclip). Westminster is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. The name Westminster comes from the Westminster described in Article VIII of the United States Constitution. The original settlers were Levi Coffin and his family who arrived on horseback in 1876. They named their new settlement after King George III's Palace in London where they had been visiting with friends and relatives. In 1886, James Fenton purchased land east of Westminster and built a log cabin which became the first post office in the town. In 1905, two brothers named O'Neill bought land west of Westminster and started to grow crops and build homes. O'Neill's home still stands today as part of the courthouse square downtown. In 1907, John Wetherbee moved to Westminster from Durango and began farming hay on his property east of town. He later sold his farm to Bob Frisbie who developed it into an agricultural empire that produced corn, potatoes, cattle, apples, wheat and other crops until it went bankrupt in 1951. A few years later when oil production boomed in Weld County, both farmers found new employment building rigs for crews working various companies drilling for oil wells around Weld County
