Westminster is a small town in Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rocky Mountain National Park. The first settlers in Westminster were Amos and Anna French in 1876. They moved from unincorporated Lawrence County to what is now Westminster when they realized that they would not be able to get land for farming because of the high cost of gravel. The French family built a cabin on the current site of Westminster High School in 1880. In 1902, Harry Bowers donated land to build Westminster Elementary School which replaced what was then called First Grade Kindergarten School. In 1954, construction began on Westminster Middle School which became the present day Westminster High School. The school was completed in 1957 and served as both elementary and middle schools until it became an all-girls school in 1982 after being reopened as a boys school following a lawsuit by several male students who claimed girls had been discriminated against at their previous school.

Westminster was founded in 1872 as the townsite of Asotin, Colorado. The town's name derived from the Westminster Psalmody Book Company, which located its first store in the town during that time. In 1888, Asotin and Westminster amalgamated to form one municipality. The population of Westminster reached 1,500 by 1910 and 2,000 by 1920. The population increased to 4,500 by 1930 and 7,000 by 1940. By 1990, the population had grown to 10,000 residents and the city had a total assessed valuation of $163 million. On July 1, 2000, Westminster became an incorporated city with a mayor-council government under a City Manager system similar to that of other large U.S. cities. At this time it had an estimated population of 11,551 residents and a total value of $2 billionils ($248 million in real estate values).
