Westminster is an unincorporated community in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. It lies on the east side of the Little Southern Rockies mountain range, east of Aspen and north of Golden. The population was 1,643 as of the 2010 census. Westminster was founded in 1907 by a group of ranchers who named it for London (now Westminster, England). The first post office at Westminster was established in 1907. The name change to Westminster in 1912 because mail from Aspen to Douglas County had to be sent through Denver. In 1925, the town voted to incorporate as a city and received its charter from the Colorado General Assembly on November 15, 1925. On July 1, 1926, the City Limits Amendment was ratified which extended Scott's Valley Ranch until Cimarron Creek ran through it making it part of new Westminster. The city annexed portions ofScott's Valley Ranch northward extending all the way to Pikes Peak Regional Park on December 12th 1934 becoming one municipality with a total population exceeding 10,000 people. In 1958-1959 two annexations were made; One annexation giving Pikes Peak Regional Park to Westminster and another annexation giving much land south of I-25 known today as Gateway Village Addition to Weston]
