Westminster, Colorado is a town in Douglas County, Colorado. The population was 2,636 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Westminster was founded in 1876 by American Latter Day Saints when they arrived from Utah. The first post office in Westminster opened in 1877. In 1907, the name changed to Westminster to honor Prince of Wales, who had visited the area that year and pronounced it "Westerndon." The first white settler in Westminster was John Gorman who built a cabin on Corral Mesa in 1879. Gorman's son Brigham also settled in Westminster and operated a ranch for several years before returning east to start his own farm near Independence, Missouri. James O'Neill bought Gorman's farm and started growing wheat there until 1886 when he moved his operation to Greeley and closed his mill there. By 1890, all of Greeley's wheat production had been discontinued due to overpopulation and drought conditions caused by the 1893 Oregon Winter Storm which dropped snowpack levels below normal throughout much of North America. In 1902, while living in Monument Valley near Canon City, Ira Springmeyer imported some sixty tons of soft red wheat from Illinois so that he could try this new variety which would become known as Springmeyer Red Wheat because it grew well on short dry winters back then In 1907 A & P Elevated Railway Company constructed its line between Longmont and Aurora along what is now Stateline Road 970 about 1 mile west of present day Downing Street Elementary School (the original site of Westminster High School). The railway allowed people from Aurora to work their farms closer to town so commerce increased as people could buy goods they couldn't get far away from either city center or merchants were able to bring products down into town for sale across street walkers or at local general stores like Mr. Snow's grocery store where you could purchase everything from eggs all the way up through coal oil! After years of growth with little opposition from anyone except those who benefited financially such as railroad developers (eventually becoming part of Crain's Companies), voters passed an ordinance allowingance for two churches - First Baptist Church located on Main Street opposite City Hall and Second Advent Lutheran Church located just south of Downing Street Elementary School on Douglass Avenue - both being built without anyraising taxes or contributions whatsoever by members or friends/familyof founder John Gorman himself! THE FIRST CHURCH WENT UP FOR BID IN 1908 AND WAS EARNED BY AN AMOUNT OF $5 PER DOLLAR!!! WHAT A TEAM THAT WAS BACK THEN!!! Reverend Fenton Hines officiated at church services soon after arriving from Kansas City where he had served as pastor prior!!! After only one year Mrs Stites replaced Rev Hines after she became pregnant with their second child!! As pastor Mrs Stites led her congregation through many changes including having electricity brought down into the building during service one night insteadof inside where it used to be (and sometimesILLUSIONS LIKE THIS KEPT OUR COMMUNICATIONS STRONGER THAN ANYONE ELSE) eventually leading her congregation TO CHOOSE EMERGENCY SERVICE OVER THEIR OWNChurch SERVICES WHEN THE STATE OF COLORADO STARTED SEEKING TO ENJOIN ALL CHURCHES TO OPERATE ON TIME WITH NO MORE LIGHTNING OR RAINFOREST FLASHES AS WE KNOW THEM TODAY!!!!! ALSO MANY MEMBERS OF OUR CLUB LEFT AFTER THAT TIME WHEN THEY REALIZED HOW POWERFUL THE STATE GOVERNMENT WERE NOW!!!! PAGE 9 BELOW STATES “WESTMINSTER VOTES AGAINST PUBLIC SCHOOLS” BUT AS WEKNOW THEY HAVE POWER NOW THANKSGIVINGLY...WE ARE WILLING TO RESPECT THEIR DECISION EVEN IF IT DOES NOT ACCEPT OUR VIEWS!!!!!!!!

During World War I (1914-18), the city made contributions of $3,000 to the war effort and also erected a large number of military cannons for use against Mexican forces across the border at Torreon. In 1952, Westminster adopted an ordinance that prohibited discrimination based on race or gender within its municipal government services
