Westminster's history goes back to 1871 when it was organized as a station on the Denver-Caldwell Railroad. In 1912, it became the seat of County government for Douglas County and has since been governed by a nine-member board of commissioners with staggered terms. The current mayor is Susan Stanton and the governing body includes six members from Douglas County who are elected at-large; two members are appointed by county commissioners; one member serves as chairperson; and one member represents each of Park City, Aspen Highlands, Canon City, Arapahoe Springs, Gold River Junction and Trinidad. The community grew rapidly during World War II due to its location near military bases around the world. After 1945, however, growth slowed as people increasingly moved away for work or retirement in other larger towns across Colorado or outside of Western US boundaries. Today there are only 1½ dozen homes remaining in town center while most businesses have closed down over time because they could not compete with better situated rivals such asDenver or Aurora. Despite this decline in population over time there have been several attempts over the years to revive downtown business districts includingining 2013-2015 with$1 million from private investors

Westminster, Colorado is a small town located in the Eagle County seat of Park City. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1912 by nine ranchers who were moving from Pueblo to find new land. Westminster became a city in 1963 and has since grown to be one of the fastest-growing cities in the Rocky Mountains. The early settlers were farmers and cattlemen who rented their land from the local Indian tribe for grazing purposes. In 1912, ten ranchers started settlement in what is now Westminster by filling up some swales that had been created when water levels changed on the Animas River. They named their new community Westminster because they thought it would be a more likely place to grow food due to its location on high ground and lack of competition from other towns. Over time, other settlers arrived and Businessman Harry Potter bought 640 acres of land around Westminster for $10 per acre in 1916. Potter developed what is now known as Pottersville which served as his home and office until he sold it off in 1948 to Senator John Fetterman for $175,000 (at today's prices). The original street grid still exists today with many of its streets named after founders or friends including Harry Potter himself ( Rideau Street), Will Rogers (Aurora Avenue), Judge James Guthrie (Fowler Avenue), and Royce Youngblood (Mitchell Boulevard). After years of growth and development, Mayor Joe Healey proclaimed December 4th, 1978 as "Westminster Day" to celebrate its growth over the previous year. Today, Westminster is one of Colorado's fastest-growing cities with a population size estimated at 2,500 residents according to 2011 census figures. It features several large businesses such as Adobe Photoshop Limited which employs 350 people; Chipotle Mexican Grill which has locations throughout Colorado; PepsiCo USA -the world's largest soft drink company-which has two stores in Westminster;and Amazon Web Services -the world's largest online retailer-which opened its first store here back in November 2009!
