Wheat Ridge, Colorado is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,844 at the 2010 census. Wheat Ridge is home to Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Military Park and the University ofColorado-Denver. The first settler in what is now Wheat Ridge was James Weir who came from Scotland in 1876. He built a log cabin on the east side of the mountain and named it "Weir's Fork". The original post office was established in 1879. In 1886, J. C. McNamara started farming around Iron Springs and named his farm "McNamara's Spring" after himself and his brother-in-law John McNamara (1825–1901). In 1896, George Haggerty bought McNamara's Spring from J.C.'s heirs and renamed it "Haggerty's". In 1903, Wm. Fenton developed an agricultural land grant called Marquette that included present-day Wheat Ridge and parts of Aspen Grove Canyon northwest of Brighton Village In 1911, when local farmers organized to form a water district to provide irrigation for their crops there were six townships in Weld County: Aspen Grove Canyon Township with its own water system; Brighton Village Township including present day Wheat Ridge; Dorsett Township with its own water system; Grand Junction Township with its own water system; LaPorte Township with its own water system;and Thorntonville Township without any municipal powers but part of it formed a school district which served both Aspen Grove Canyon township as well as Blanding City limits northward to Garden City Limits southward) In 1916 when wheat prices became prohibitively high due to World War I shortages during peacetime production quotas were set by Ulysses S Grant as part of program Agricultural Adjustment Act known as Homestead law which gave homesteaders acreage or sharecropping rights based on crop yield rather than price received at market

Wheat Ridge is a small town in the U.S. state of Colorado, located on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains. The population was 9,859 at the 2010 census. Wheat Ridge is one of two municipalities in Weld County and one of six municipalities in Jefferson County that make up Larimer County. The first people to live in what is now Wheat Ridge were Native American settlers who arrived around 1823. They named their settlement "Cheyenne," after the Cheyennes, an Indian tribe who lived near Fort Lyon on the Rockies. A post office was established at Wheat Ridge on July 20, 1847, and opened under the name of "Ogden." The name was changed to "Wheat Ridge" on February 13, 1868 by act of Congress because there were already settlements called Ogden and Westminster in Utah Territory. The first store in Wheat Ridge was built by Ephraim Hickey on Main Street in 1872. This store became a major center for local commerce and served as a commercial depot for goods arriving from eastward via wagon route 3rd Avenue until it burned down in 1902. A new store building was erected on South First Street (now Western Avenue) next door to Hickey's original business site soon after; this building still stands today and functions as a museum facility for local history buffs and students interested in wheat ridge history! In 1903, another store built by Jno Wolkowitz also operated at this location until it burned down due to damage from a thunderstorm four years later! In 1911-12 an addition to this old structure housed the Community House which functioned as both a social hall and schoolhouse during these early years – class sizes ranged from four to twelve students! From here until 1975 when it burned down again (!), residents used various smaller buildings situated along Western Avenue between North First and Second Streets as their homes! During World War II many residents participated willingly or involuntarily with military service through payroll deductions made possible by regulations enacted during that wartime period known as “Greed” Wilson introduced into BSA Law number 103–19 which created government controlled purchasing power over civilian wage earners
Wheat Ridge was founded in 1868 by James W. Watt and his brother, John. The town served as a research center for the American Electric Railway and became home to two of the company's factories. Wheat Ridge was also the birthplace of Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and Congressman Abner S. Miklson
