The Wheat Ridge Coast Guard Station has been a part of the community since 1909. The station was originally manned by two sailors, but has since grown to include a team of six officers and twenty-six enlisted personnel. The station provides essential security for the town and its residents, as well as helping to keep our community clean. The station's main purpose is homeland defense, but it also offers many other functions such as public information presentation, law enforcement services, and ambulance service. In addition to its primary responsibilities, the station also engages in amateur radio operations and participates in numerous charity events. In 1974, the Wheat Ridge Coast Guard Station became one of fourteen stations across America that were designated an Emergency Operations Center (EOC). This designation allows for increased response time to emergencies in our community. Additionally, the EOC is responsible for providing command and control over all emergency resources within Wheat Ridge including firefighting/EMS services, police services,and rescue helicopters. Since 1994, the Wheat Ridge Coast Guard Station has offered gift shop privileges to local organizations who donate items or money during holiday season. The program is called "Operation Christmas Tree" and benefits local charities such as Alzheimer's Association Colorado Springs Branch Committee and Stonington Area School District 113th Unit Scholarship Fund."

Wheat Ridge is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,515 at the 2010 census. It is part of theDenver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wheat Ridge is located on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains and is surrounded byicken slopes that reach to 4,000 feet (1,200 m). The first settlers in what became Wheat Ridge came from Ireland in 1868. They named their new community after John Wentworth Wheatley who had settled near Fort Collins two years earlier. The first school was established in 1870 and the first post office was founded in 1872. The original townsite was a narrow tract of land between Brushy Creek and Wadsworth Road. Today's wheat fields are evidence of how early settlers cultivated this area. The present day town began to form when a group of men met to discuss creating a market for goods they were selling from their farmsteads around mile marker 311 on Wadsworth Road. They called themselves the "Wheat Ridge Market Committee." They decided to name their new town after John Wentworth Wheatley since he had been so instrumental in helping them set up shop and improve their business enterprise. In 1892, residents voted unanimously to change the name of their town from "Wadsworth" to "Wheat Ridge". At that time, many people believed that wheat would become America's favorite cereal because it could be grown anywhere there was good soil and sunlight
The Coast Guard Gift History Museum is a Smithsonian Institution museum that preserves the history of the Coast Guard. The museum opened in 1984 and is located at the Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. It has exhibits on topics such as maritime history, Coast Guard traditions, and gifts from both the United States Congress and various private individuals. The museum also has a library with over 100,000 items on coast guard history. One of the earliest gifts to the Coast Guard was a clock from England in 1814. This gift was followed by many other donations including cannons and machine guns from Spain in 1836, engines from America in 1854, cigars from Cuba in 1865, stamps from Denmark in 1870, rifles from Greece in 1880, and finally radios (from Japan) in 1944. The most recent donation to the Coast Guard Gift History Museum was a helicopter named Enterprise which was donated by Helicopter Industries Incorporated on November 15th 2006. This gift marked the first time that a helicopter had been given to the Coast Guard. The helicopter is used for Search & Rescue operations and can carry up to 12 people or 4 stretchers.

Wheat Ridge is a small town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Wheat Ridge is part of the larger Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Wheat Ridge was John Wesley Powell in 1872. The community was founded on the land that now includes parts of Aurora and Lakewood. Early businesses included a post office, bakery, and grocery store. A sawmill opened in 1893 and turned out lumber for local homes and businesses until it closed in 1925. A new sawmill started up about 1930 but stopped operations due to lack of demand from the industry. The mill site has been used for agricultural purposes ever since. In 1951, Wheat Ridge became one of fifteen townships within Douglas County when it was created from portions of Auraria Township and Brighton Township. The township had a total population of 1,664 as of the 2000 census; its boundaries expanded by adding portions of Aspinwall Township to form a second annexation that same year.
