Wheat Ridge is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,835 at the 2010 census. Wheat Ridge is part of the Fort Collins–Asheboro-Greeley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1892 by Congregationalists and Episcopalians who immigrated from England. Wheat Ridge is named after George Washington Wheat, a local landowner and founder of the Townsite Company which developed much of what is now Wheat Ridge. The first settlers in what is now Wheat Ridge were Congregationalists who came overland from England in 1892. They built their homes on high ground overlooking the city of Fort Collins (then called Ashtabula). By 1907, there were 150 residents living in Wheat Ridge. wheat ridge post office was established in 1903, and remained operational until it closed on October 12th, 1916 due to lack of mail volume. In 1916 the citizens of Weld County organized themselves into a municipality known as "Wheat Ridge". The first mayor was John Witherspoon and the first treasurer was Hosea Cooksey Jr.. On October 12th 1916 the last post office opened with issue #3477(dated November 10TH 1915), serving only for 3 days before being discontinued because no mail could be delivered to wheat ridge due to an army blockade around World War I

Wheat Ridge is an affluent town in the Clear Creek Valley of the Colorado Rockies. The population was 3,421 at the 2010 census. Wheat Ridge is located about 15 miles (24 km) east of downtown Denver and 25 miles (40 km) north-northwest of Fort Collins. The town was organized on November 12, 1872, when a group of farmers from nearby Castle Rock agreed to amalgamate with local residents to form one community. The name "Wheat Ridge" originates from a ridge that runs through the center of town. The ridge served as a natural landmark for early settlers and later became known for its fine wheat farming industry. The first stores in Wheat Ridge opened in 1879. A post office was established at Wheat Ridge on December 1, 1882, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on July 1, 1914. The first school in Wheat Ridge opened in September 1881 and continued operations until it closed in 1902. A second school reopened in 1903 and operated until it too closed down in 1916. During World War I, Wheat Ridge contributed troops to various engagements including service as an airfield artillery spotter battery; as well as providing civilian workers to help with production at several munitions plants located near Denver. After the war ended, many returning veterans moved into Wheat Ridge which quickly grew prosperous thanks to its agricultural production capabilities and good schools system. In 1951, Wheatridge voters passed a referendum approving annexation by Fort Collins making it their new official city status; however, no formal annexation took place until 1957 when both towns merged into one entity under the name "Wheatridge-Fort Collins." Today's population totals over 4,000 people living mainly within close-knit communities scattered throughout several neighborhoods across downtown Aurora and Northglenn areas while also maintaining close connections with their ancestral homes back home where they continue growing corn or harvesting wheat fields today - all without leaving their beautiful hometowns!
