The Wheat Ridge National Guard is one of the largest and most diverse volunteer organizations in the United States. The units that make up the National Guard comprise over 36,000 men and women who serve their country with distinction. The Wheat Ridge National Guard was activated in October, 1912. The unit was first stationed at Fort Collins until 1916 when it relocated to Larimer County. In 1917 the National Guard was again activated and based in Pueblo until 1920 when it moved to Longmont. From 1922-1929 the National Guard resided at Ft. Riley before moving back to Pueblo in 1929. After World War II the National Guard operated out of Fort Carson until 1951 when they were disbanded and their assets reassigned to the Colorado State Police.
Wheat Ridge is a small town in Greeley County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. Wheat Ridge is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white person to live in what is now Wheat Ridge was John Wesley Adams who arrived in 1847. The current location of Wheat Ridge was settled by farmers and miners during the early 20th century. After World War II, agricultural production increased whilemining declined; however, wheat farming still remains an important industry in the area. Wheat Ridge has a rich history that has been recorded through local newspapers and oral histories. One key event that took place in Wheat Ridge occurred on July 7, 1886 when Judge George Gunnarson erected a monument to memory of his brother Elisha Gunnarson who had died from consumption six months earlier while serving as US Marshal for District 8 south of Denver. At this time Wheat Ridge consisted of just four homes and twenty-four people total. In 1951, the townsite was annexed into the city of Greeley and became known as "Wheatridge South". In 1970, it reverted back to its original name when it became part of the municipality again - but retained its ZIP code (80002). Today Wheatridge experiences growth each year with younger generations moving into the area to take advantage of its high quality schools and businesses opportunities combined with its easy access to major cities like Denver and Aurora.

Wheat Ridge is a small town in Jefferson County, Colorado. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of theDenver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Wheat Ridge" is derived from the nearby hills that resembled wheat fields. Wheat Ridge was founded in 1881 by hardware store owners Goldthwait and Burt Lancaster. The first post office was established in 1886. In 1915, Wheat Ridge became a city and it has since grown to become one of the most populous towns in Jefferson County with over 11,000 residents as of 2010. The original town site was located on what is now north side of I-25 east of Denver proper; today's junction of Wadsworth Boulevard and Kipling Road forms part of the limits of Wheat Ridge. At its peak in the 1920s, Wheat Ridge had a population exceeding 10,000 people and boasted two banks (the First National Bank and Citizens Trust Company), three fire stations, six schools (including an all-girls school), two churches (one Methodist and one Baptist), four businesses (a hardware store, a restaurant/barbershop, an auto parts store and a movie theater), five parks including Roosevelt Lake Park which hosted both the world's first water skiing event at Ascot Racecourse on July 4th 1916 – also the location for America's first intercollegiate soccer game played between Notre Dame and Yale on November 5th 1896 – as well as several tennis courts which have been used by local high school seniors through afternoons ever since; numerous large Craftsman built homes were erected during this time period; both municipal water systems were municipally run until 1938 when they were privatized under state control In 1938 local resident Orville Ewing donated land along Wadsworth Boulevard for what would become PepsiCo Park which would open to the public in 1959 followed by additional land donations from various civic leaders over ensuing years culminating with fellow Jeffco resident Richard Muhlenberg donating 6 acres southwest corner lot on Kipling Road south of I-25 just past Highway 70 where he built his own home into what is now known as Pepsi Center – headquarters for PepsiCo operations across sixteen states) By 1960 Hempstead Township trustee Lester Pabst had organized efforts to get Wichita State University to move its campus from Wichita Falls Texas to Wheatridge so that students could use their facilities closer to home but no success was achieved until 1969 when then president Richard Nixon visited Wheatridge while campaigning for re-election against incumbent Gerald Ford He announced that if elected President he would move forward with plans to bring NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament games back to Wichita Falls starting with 1975 edition While running for office Nixon said "I don't know if we can do it [move WSU] because our financial situation wouldn't allow it", later offering $1 million towards construction costs contingent upon WSU staying within Kansas That same year Coca Cola purchased adjacent property northeast corner lot off El Paso highway US 281 from entrepreneur Lloyd Reynolds who had been interested in moving his bottling plant there but found that market conditions were unfavorable enough elsewhere so Coke instead constructed its current facility adjacent Interstate 25 north side near School District line
