Windsor is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado. It was first settled in 1876. The town was named after King Edward VII of the United Kingdom and his wife, Alexandra of Russia. Windsor had a population of about 110 people in 1940. The original store and post office were built in 1876 and remain standing today. In 1924, the US Post Office moved from its original location to what is now the library building. In 1976, the community consolidated with nearby Trinidad to form a new municipality. The name change came about because Windsor was considered two different towns - one founded by Americans and another founded by Canadians who adopted American names for themselves (e.g., Toronto, Windsor). The first settler in Windsor was George Washington Morse who arrived on August 16, 1876. He married Sarah Ewing at the local Methodist church on September 15th and started a farm near present-day intersection of 14th Street and Academy Road. Mrs Morse later donated land for a schoolhouse which served as our first post office until it closed in 1924 when it merged with neighboring Trinidad's school system (now known as Northglenn School District). The first physician to serve our community was Dr John A O'Neill who attended our initial meeting on December 12th, 1876 when we organized ourselves into groupings called "Townships". Our first election took place on January 6th following which we elected our first Mayor with James Murtaugh serving as First Vice President Our second Mayor was Wm H Collins who served from March 3rd 1902 until his death on October 25th 1903 due to an illness that he contracted while out of town conducting business with other dignitaries during America's Centennial celebration at Key West Florida Mr Collins son Jno H Collins assumed Governorship upon MrCollins father's death leaving us without an official City Manager On November 1st 1902 renamed our Municipality Windsor through proclamation issued by U S Governor Atchison
