The Air Force has a long history in Ansonia, Connecticut. The first air force installation in the town was the Ansonia Municipal Airport, which opened in 1917. The Air Force base at New London was established in 1942 and is now home to the 9th Air Base Wing. In 1966, the 9th AF moved from Hartford to Ansonia as part of Operation Neptune's Spear. The airport was renovated and renamed after Gen. George Custer in 1997. In 2006, Ansonia became one of only two communities in Connecticut to become an associate member of the Joint Chiefs Support Command (JCSAC). Today, the Air Force operates more than 100 bases around Connecticut; it provides support for multiple military missions across America and abroad. Ansonia, Connecticut is a small town in the state of Connecticut. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford-West Hartford metropolitan area and is bordered by Ansonia to the north, Vernon to the east, Middletown to the south, and New Haven to the west. The town was first settled in 1639 by Dutch colonists who were looking for a new home after their colony on Long Island had been abandoned. The name Ansonia comes from an Indian word meaning "safe place." In 1714, it became a part of Yale University and remained so until 1865 when it became an independent city. The community has developed around four churches which remain important in its culture and social life: First Congregational (founded in 1701), Hebrew Union (founded in 1876), United Brethren (founded in 1868) and Christ Episcopal Church (established in 1888). Today, Ansonia features well-preserved late 19th century buildings including several stores and restaurants which have been revived as businesses. It also has a wide range of cultural events throughout year including music concerts, art shows and readings from local authors.

Ansonia is a town in central Connecticut, United States. The population was 9,852 at the 2010 census. Ansonia's history can be traced back to 1635 when English colonists began settling here. The first European settler in what is now Ansonia was John Winthrop, who arrived with his family in 1636. In 1814, the town was renamed for General Nathaniel Anson after his death in the Revolutionary War. The townsite of North Adams and South Adams were annexed into Ansonia in 1903 following a referendum by the communities. The original Dutch settlers who founded what is now Ansonia were Nieuw Amsterdamians (New Amsterdamers). They arriving from New Netherland in 1635 and settled on the east bank of Hartford River near present-day Saybrook. Early residents of this region were farmers or fishermen; however, beginning about 1710 some began to construct homes called "Winchester" due to their location on Winchester Island just upstream from Hartford River where ammunition factories once functioned. By 1738 there were over 25 families living here and somelunden (a type of cheese) had been produced there since before Queen Anne's day. By 1768 an arsenal had been built on what is now State Street which enabled the government to arm its forces during the American Revolution against Great Britain In 1814 General Nathaniel Ansonian donated land to form an academy for boys known as Academy Hill which became Yale University after it was spared destruction during the war by George Washington The townspeople grew tired of high taxes levied by Milford County so they organized themselves into a fire company and petitioned for incorporation as a village on November 3, 1824 On January 1st of that year they became one community with voting rights and elected their first mayor John Sibley . However no money ever came through from outside investors so within 2 years they voted again to annex North Adams and SouthAdams . This timeOver $2000 was raised but still no money came through so incorporation took place on May 14th 1830 with James Aiken as Mayor Ansonshire became part of Manchester Township when that township formed in 1850 . In 1870 Ansonshire Vote went Democratic until Republicans regained control after Reconstruction ; however this party lost all power within Ansonshire by 1880
Ansonia, Connecticut was first settled in 1664 by the Ansonians. The town was named for Colonel John Anson, who donated land to the town. The first post office in Ansonia was established in 1795. In 1819, the town acquired its own government and began to grow rapidly. By 1870, Ansonia had a population of over 1,500 people. By 1920, the population had grown to 4,000 people and it reached its peak growth in 1930 with 5,000 people. However, during World War II Ansonia's economy suffered as many of its residents enlisted in the military or served in other related endeavors. The community then experienced a rapid decline after the war ended and by 1970 only had 2 hundred inhabitants remaining.
