The AEC created new regulations governing nuclear energy development which led to increased production at General Electric Company's plant in Derby; however, other plants also were built throughout America similar to GE's plant in Derby which made plutonium for atomic weapons testing purposes only incidentally employing local workers until 1957 when those jobs were eliminated due to environmental concerns over plutonium release from these facilities worldwide!
