The Naval History and Heritage Command, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is the chronicling arm of the United States Navy. The command has responsibility for historical research and preservation of naval artifacts from throughout the world. In 1942, the Naugatuck Museum in Connecticut opened its doors to the public as a repository for navy gifts from throughout America. At that time it was the first museum in America dedicated exclusively to naval history and culture. Since then there have been numerous other naval museums across America which accept navy gifts; however, there is no single navy gift history repository like Naugatuck Museum does. The history of navyDeployedGift begins with USS Constitution Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1801 when Commodore John Adams delivered a gift of cannons to that museum. This event marked one point in time where warships were given as Gifts to American Museums by members of Congress including President James K. Polk who gifted USS Constitution Museum with two cannon barrels on December 12th 1841 during his visit to Philadelphia. Since then many other museums have received gifts from both private individuals and federal governments including USS Constitution Museum’s third donation on June 6th 1934 which was made by Franklin D Roosevelt during his trip through Philly- this gave USS Constitution Museum four cannons! One such example isUSS Lexington Museums’ recent acquisition of nineteen 24 caliber guns donated by retired Vice Admiral Harry S Truman who served as Commander-in-Chief U.S Pacific Fleet from 1951-1957 inclusive These cannons will now be displayed at Lexington Museums alongside rare war memorabilia and photos relating to the Korean War

Naugatuck, Connecticut is a town in Litchfield County, Connecticut. The population was 24,569 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the eastern border of the county and is bordered by Grand Haven to the north and east, Watertown to the south-east, and East Hartford to the south-west. The first European settlers in Naugatuck were Dutch farmers who arrived in 1638. They named their land "Havens", after a pond near their farmstead. In 1764, English colonists established a trading post called New Windsor on what is now Main Street in Naugatuck. That year, Naugatuck became part of Litchfield County. In 1814, a group of Revolutionary War veterans led by Colonel John Glover settled in Naugatuck and started a blacksmith shop as part of their effort to rebuild society after the war. By 1825, there were over 50 blacksmith shops in Connecticut; only six remained throughout most of 19th century America because new technology made it easier forforge weapons without smithing them from metal blocks or working with molten lead and other harsh chemicals. Today only one still remains open: that of General Atomics Company located off Route 9A just outside of town limits

It is bordered by New Britain to the north and west, Glastonbury to the east, Watertown to the south-east and West Hartford to the south-west.Naugatuck has been inhabited for over 3,000 years and was one of the original towns inHartford County. The first permanent settler in what is now Naugatuck was Nicholas Weymouth who arrived in 1664. For many years it was a small farming village with only a few homes and no commercial enterprises until 1824 when a canal haulage road became available making it an important transportation center for settlers on both sides of the river.In 1832 Christopher Sibley founded Sibley's Bank which remains a major financial institution in town today. In 1844 John Haggerty opened his gristmill which became one of Naugatuck's most important economic assets after he began production of flour from maizemeal that he had brought over from Watertown.. From 1840 until 1865 Naugatuck had its own school system which evolved into present day Hartt School District #1 The first post office opened in 1819 and closed in 1825; however, there continue to be numerous postal addresses including: Naugatuck (1825), Easton (1827), North Branford (1829), Danbury (1830), Milford (1831), Norwich (1832), Westport (1835) and South Branford (1836). One notable early developer was Elisha Goodin who built much of what would become downtown Naugatuck during this time period including Goodin’s Store between 1830-37 as well as good mills such as Sibley’s Mill between 1840-45 During World War II many people fled Nazi Germany because they were unable or unwilling to leave their homes However, most residents ultimately avoided military service due to rationing policies put into place during that war Although some residents did serve duty within their communities during wartime they generally chose not to return home afterwards Some notable people from Naugatuck include: Dr. Julius Smith born here; poet friends William Cullen Bryant & James Baldwin; businessman Francis Aikenhead; Congressman George Paulding
Naugatuck, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 34,898 at the 2010 census. The first settlement in what is now Naugatuck took place on November 10, 1638 when John Wayland and his family (the Waylands) purchased of land from the Narragansetts. On December 14 of that year they erected a small cabin near present day East Main Street and North Park Avenue. The first school in Naugatuck was built by Reverend Nathaniel Eaton on May 6, 1793. It was burned down in 1810 but was rebuilt and enlarged several times before it closed for good in 1875. In 1868 the town became part of Hartford County and remained so until 1959 when it reverted back to its original boundaries. Naugatuck has been home to many businesses over the years including Sears Roebuck & Co., Pratt’s Paper Mill, The Hartford Courant Company and many more smaller ones along with larger companies such as IBM World Headquarters and Ameritech Univer
