The Connecticut Air National Guard's (CANG) 1st Fighter Wing deploys a variety of gift baskets and items to the New Haven area each year in order to support military and civilian families. These baskets typically include clothing, toys, snacks, books, and other supplies for children in need. In 2017, the CANG deployed a basket filled with items meant to promote literacy for children in our community. The basket also included a copy of "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger as well as sippy cups and feeding utensils designed specifically for young children who are struggling with their food choices. This year's gift history is reflective of the Wing's mission statement which is "to provide quality air service while giving back to our community." This year's gifts focus on providing support to local military families as well as helping promote literacy among children in New Haven.

It has over 215,000 active duty soldiers and airmen, as well as an additional 134,000 civilians who support the military through their work at airports and other locations. The Air Force is also responsible for numerous homeland security missions, such as providing security for nuclear facilities and airspace. The Air Force is particularly unique because it can use a variety of different modes of transportation to move its personnel and supplies around the world. This includes both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Fixed-wing aircraft are used for short distance tasks, while helicopters are used for long range missions. One of the most common types of helicopter used by the Air Force is the AH-64 Apache helicopter. These helicopters are able to fly at high speeds and have a wide range of capabilities. They are also very maneuverable, which allows them to Perform many different tasks during their deployment. Another popular type of helicopter used by the Air Force is the C-130J Super Hercules transport plane. This plane is able to carry a great deal of cargo, including weapons, ammunition, and other supplies. It also has a large wingspan so it can fly faster than other helicopters
In 1924, the Connecticut Air National Guard was activated and assigned to serve as a Maine-based air defense force. On December 1, 1924, the first of the Boston-New Haven Airways service began and on Christmas day, the Connecticut Air National Guard presented its first gift to passenger Louis J. Browne in New Haven. The gift was a Howe balloon which flew over Hartford and Brunswick before landing at Yale University's Weymouth Airport. Since then, the Connecticut Air National Guard has bestowed gifts throughout the year to thousands of passengers and visitors with an appreciation for their American Airlines flights from New Haven. In honor of our 150th anniversary in 2021, we will present another special gift in honor of our heritage - a Boeing 787 Dreamliner!
New Haven is a city in the U.S. state of Connecticut, and the seat of New Haven County. The population was 1,236 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford–Worchester metropolitan area. In 1638, English settlers founded a trading post on the site of present-day New Haven, which became a town in 1716. The first college in what is now Connecticut was established in New Haven in 1801 and soon after merged with Yale University to form Brown University. In 1853, Yale College moved from New Haven to Pembroke Hall on Park Street in downtown Hartford for its third time as an educational institution; this move made it one of only two colleges in Massachusetts that did not join the rest of Yale's campus at South Hadley when Connecticut joined the United States as a independent country. In 1907, Old Lyme Hospital—then located on Main Street—became one of America's first hospitals dedicated to community care with patients coming from all over rural and urban Connecticut (the other being Boston's Beth Israel Hospital). Today, Old Lyme Hospital remains one of Hartford–Worchester's largest employers with more than 2,000 employees across five campuses including its flagship building (Old Lyme Medical Center) which has been designated an official National Historic Landmark by history buffs America’s Top Ten list for 2006-2015 The downtown core contains many restored buildings dating back to colonial times such as King’s Chapel where John Winthrop preached his famous sermon “A Perfect Day for Justification” on July 14th 1636 King’s Chapel also served as home to Nathaniel Nethercutt who designed and supervised construction of Stamford Bridge which connected London with Manhattan Stamford Bridge then became known as TheBridgeOfLife because it helped connect passenger ships travelling between Long Island Sound and Westport Harbor As Main Street grew older some businesses relocated or were relocated but most notably The Pequot Tavern which still stands today just off State Street near Central Park
The Air Force Deployed Gift History program is a way for service members to express their appreciation for the work they do. The program allows airmen and women from all branches of the military to exchange gifts with other service members. The goals of the program are twofold: To connect servicemen and women from different branches of the military, and to provide unique opportunities for relationships between members of different services. The Air Force Deployed Gift History program began in 1984 as an effort to remember those who have given their time and energy to serve our country. Today, it continues to be one of the most popular programs within the Air Force. With over 1,500 gift exchanges conducted through the program each year, airmen and women from all walks of life come together to celebrate friendship, love, and veterans’ support. From bottles of water or cups of coffee to T-shirts or dog tags, every gift is special no matter how small or insignificant it may seem.
The USAF deployed gift history during the Vietnam War. The deployment was in order to provide gifting opportunities for service members and their families. Gifts were sent to troops stationed in Southeast Asia, as well as North Vietnam.

The area now known as New Haven was first settled by the Pequot people in 1639 AD. In 1785, during the French and Indian War, General George Washington's army moved through town on their way to battle against France at Saratoga Springs. After fighting through downtown New Haven, they reached General Howe's camp on North Bridge Street just before dark on July 5th – a day that would become famous within America as "the Battle of Bunker Hill". The City of New Haven was incorporated on December 1st 1817 from portions of Hartford Township and West Milford Township along with Enfield Township (now part of Easton). On November 15th 1818 John Peter Zenger published his infamousNY Times article "A History Of The American Revolution" which criticized what he saw as high taxes being levied by both Great Britain and Massachusetts Bay Colony onto local taxpayers in order to finance British military campaigns abroad; this led to a civil war between Zenger's supporters - who were called aristocrats or gentry - and those who were called commoners or voters alike (the latter group becoming known as "the working classes"). This protracted conflict ended with an agreement made between Great Britain and America whereby all Englishmen living within 100 miles (160 kilometers) of Manhattan were granted certain rights including vote representation at Westminster Parliament – an event that helped Founding Father George Washington win election as president two years later! New Haven, Connecticut was founded in 1664 by Increase Mather. The city is named after the governor of New England, John Winthrop. The city's first mayor was Nicholas-Jacques Conte. In 1820, the United States government moved its embassy from London to New Haven and again in 1903. As a result of the Great Depression, the city experienced a significant decline in population and economy during the 1930s and 1940s. However, since the 1990s, New Haven has seen an increase in population and job opportunities as well as increasing development within its limits.
