These businesses produced high-quality coffee until the early 1970s when a series of devastating fires destroyed most of their businesses. This left Altamonte Springs without a single roaster or brewer, but it did have access to world-class beans from other towns and regions around the United States. The rebirth of artisan coffee began in 1978 when two local businessmen started Jardin Coffee Company. They used only high-quality Arabica beans from around Altamonte Springs and created unique blends that are still popular today. With continued support from their customers and friends, Jardin Coffee Company has been producing excellent cup after excellent cup since then. In 2009, theyopened their second location in an old shipping container on State Road 436 in Altamonte Springs. Here they continue to produce delicious cups of espresso based on world-class Arabica beans sourced from all over the world.

Altamonte Springs was founded in 1892 by J.W. Hare and his brother-in-law, Rufus Phillips. The name comes from Altamont Key, which lies east of the town on the Gulf of Mexico and is also its namesake key. The first post office opened in Altamonte Springs on February 13, 1893. In 1896, a sawmill was built on Railroad Street to help support rapid growth in the community as industry grew throughout central Florida during the early 20th century. By 1919 Altamonte had become an incorporated town with a total population of over 2100 residents and two banks - First National Bank and Marshall Bros., Inc.. During World War II, Altamonte Springs played host to many military installations including Fort Myers Army Airfield No 1 (later Scott Air Force Base), Fort Walton Beach Naval Station (now Naval Air Station West Palm Beach) and Plantation Field Training School for Boys located near present day Lake Buena Vista Boulevard and Northwest Military Highway/Old US highway 95 intersection where thousands of troops were trained for war service between 1942-1945; as well as naval air station Cecil Field until 1943 when it became Gaines Field; all contributing to its nickname "Gateway to War". In 1954, when Interstate 4 was completed through Central Florida it bypassed Altamonte Springs connecting it directly with Daytona Beach; giving rise to one ofAltamonte's most popular tourist attractions - The Keys! Over time however some businesses closed or moved out due primarily to competition from more quickly growing towns such as Sanford and Kissimmee who now enjoy much greater economic opportunities than their predecessors did 50 years ago!
