In 1995, The Coffee House closed its doors but not before leaving an important mark on Altamonte Springs coffee history. It is now considered an extremely popular tourist attraction and has continued to serve up excellent cup of java since then.

Altamonte Springs is a city located in central Florida, about 20 miles south of Orlando. The population was 50,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Osceola County. The Altamonte Springs area has been inhabited by Native American people for centuries and was first known as "Hahokam" or "Tocobaga". The Spanish discovered this area in 1565 and called it La Habana de las Mocasas (the Havana of Palm Trees). In 1764, Captain John Smith discovered land near Altamonte Springs on which he built Fort George. In 1821, Altamonte Springs was incorporated as a town. In 1884, two brothers named Antonio and Manuel Martinez purchased 1,500 acres (60 hectares) of land east of the city limits from J.W. Hogg for $10 per acre ($2 million today). They named their new community after José María Altamontes y Cano who had fought with Spain against France during the Napoleonic Wars and then become a United States citizen in 1814. The Martinez brothers established an agricultural colony that became one of Florida's most important citrusgrowing regions after they developed a patented system for harvesting fruit using specially designed tractors that cut through tall trees quickly and without injury to the fruits themselves. This innovative technology made them among the earliest producers of oranges in America and helped make Florida one of America's leading citrus states by 1850. The family also operated several other businesses including a mercantile store and post office before they died in 1907 aged 96 years old. The Altamonte Springs area was first settled by the Alachua County native Timucua in the early 18th century. The first European to arrive in what is now Altamonte Springs was Nicholas-Jacques Brienne, who founded a trading post on the lower Apalachicola River in 1763. By 1800, there were over 100 British and American traders operating in the area. In 1819, Spanish traders discovered oil reserves at San Pedro Bay in present-day Altamonte Springs and began prospecting for land around it. In 1827, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Teresa ordered Spanish soldiers to burn down all of the Native American villages within 3 miles of his army’s encampment at Micanopy Swamp. This action destroyed much of the Native American population and forever changed the landscape of this region. In 1830, two brothers named Augustus Wright and John Hargrave founded what is now Altamonte Springs as a town on land that had been leased from Spain by Randolph Cave (a white man). The Wrights imported many items including cows, pigs, wheat, cotton and lumber from America for local use and built a few homes themselves before selling most of their holdings to other settlers. By 1840, Altamonte Springs had about 350 residents; it grew rapidly during Reconstruction (1865-1877) thanks to new transportation methods such as railroads and canals that allowed goods to be shipped directly from New England or California into Florida without being unloaded onshore at ports like Jacksonville or Tampa. A fire destroyed most ofAltamonteSpringsin 1886; however, new development continued with further business ventures such as hotels, stores and factories until World War II when Fort Myers became an important naval base providing supplies for warships based in Miami Harbor
