The Coast Guard Auxiliary of Florida was established in 1923. The Auxiliary provides support to the Coast Guard, including providing personnel, equipment, and resources. In 1969, the Auxiliary became part of the National Guard and has remained a separate entity ever since. In 1949, the Auxiliary merged with the Coast Guard Reserve to form the present Coast Guard Auxiliary of Florida. The organization continues to provide support to our nation's coast guard through its member units and assets. As a separate agency, we are proud to offer gifts for special occasions such as Christmas and Memorial Day. Our donations go beyond giving things away; we believe that by giving back, we make a difference in people's lives. The Coast Guard has a duty to protect American coasts and seas from marine threats and hazards, promote maritime commerce, maintain order on our Nation's oceans, and provide coastal security. One of the primary purposes of the Coast Guard is to provide gift baskets filled with various supplies for members of the Armed Forces who are deployed aboard ships or aircraft at sea or in other military operations ashore. Apopka, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,827 at the 2000 census. It is located on State Road 7 between Starke and Panama City. Apopka is home to the Apopka Elementary School and the Apopka Middle School. The first people to live in what is now Apopka were the Timucua Indians who lived along the St Johns River from where they got their name from. They left around 1650 AD when Spain took over Florida and they were never able to return to their original land. In 1835 Spanish explorers discovered an area of swampy territory that would become part of Polk County in 1836 when General James Kenedy divided Florida into two provinces: Osceola Territory (west of Tampa) and Gainesville District (east of Tallahassee). In 1839 Captain John Dickey explored some nearby lands which he named "Dickey's Land" after himself because he had first sighted it on July 12, 1837 while sailing down the Saint Petersburg River from Mexico City under control of Governor Manuel de Armas y Gassia with Lt. José Moreno as pilot. The village started as a small post office called Starke on December 10, 1850 by Aoler Cushman with stores, a blacksmith shop and a school for 20 children at $2 per week each. The population reached 100 by 1860 but decreased to 25 by 1870 because of Indian Removal (the opening up of areas east of Lake Okeechobee for white settlement). On March 3, 1907 Apopka became an incorporated town when all its citizens joined hands together in order to provide better services such as telephone service, firefighting etc.. On October 15th 1916 there was another incorporation vote followed by street Cleaning & Painting which cost $1 per person or $5 for three days with everyone getting one call free every day! This town council also authorized building a new high school which opened January 4th 1928 with Dr J B White as our first principal! We are still blessed with his guidance today! Apopka is a town in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Daytona Beach metropolitan area. The first European to visit Apopka was Captain John Smith on November 14, 1763 during his expedition from Pensacola to Key West. He named it "Apopka" after the Seminole chief Apalachicola. Apopka was incorporated as a town in 1887 and its first mayor was Halsey Crouch. The first post office opened in 1888 and the name change came about because the individual postmaster could not find an appropriate name for the town when he tried to open his business with that name. In 1899, Apopka had a population of 1,200 people and became one of Florida's original fifty townships when it was created from parts of Daytona Beach (then called Afton) and Sanford (then known as Winter Garden). In 1912 Apopka had 2,500 people living in 100 blocks and by 1920 it had grown to 4500 people living in 300 blocks with two hospitals serving the community: St Joseph's Hospital (founded 1912) which operated out of apopka Baptist Church and St James Episcopal Hospital (founded 1913). That same year saw construction begin on what would become known as "the world's largest municipally-owned grocery store", now GCP supermarket located at 7100 S Orange Blossom Trail #3208 inside Phase I mall across from PetsMart remains one of Apopka's most recognizable landmarks today. In 1932 Mayor Harry Whelan signed into law Florida's first free school lunch program – providing lunches for all students grades K-6 who received government funding through county food service programs such as Head Start or early childhood education programs; this program continues to provide educational opportunities for many kids today! In 1936 Mayor Whelan also moved forward with plans for what would become "Central Park" – consisting of land between Main Street/Upper Ormond Road and US 301/Orlando Boulevard off Interstate 95 – apopKA becoming home to some beautiful parks like Central Park Lake (now Kissimmee Lakeshore Park), Olmsted Botanical Gardens [opened 1924], then Walt Disney World just south of town limits - which still exist today! Additionally within Central Park were built several impressive structures such as Knott's Berry Farm [opened 1915] - now part of Universal Studios Theme Parks -[and] Epcot Center […] Today much like before there are plenty resources available including libraries, restaurants, nightlife & more making life very easy for those who call Apopka their home
