In 1810, Nicholas-Jacques Conte set up his own mill on the Javistraat River near Rotterdam where he roasted and packaged all his own beans despite having difficulty achieving consistent yields due to altitude changes and pests/insects attacking his plants. With this new technology came better quality cups of coffee that became popular among consumers around the world. From hereon out until World War II there would be many innovations within both brewing methods (drying versus roasting) and product design (coffee cups becoming more sturdy).
