In 1810, American General James Moore landed at Apopka and established a military post there before moving on to Fort Gibson in Indian Territory. Apopka's growth began when settlers arrived from Georgia in 1819. They built a log cabin on the banks of the river that later became known as Creek Road. By 1830, apopka had a population of around 100 people and was home to a school, store, and cotton gin.
