The Coast Guard Auxiliary was founded in 1922 in Atlantic Beach, Florida. The Auxiliary is a volunteer organization that provides first responder services to the citizens of Atlantic Beach. In 1979, the Auxiliary merged with the United States Coast Guard. The Coast Guard Auxiliary currently has over 10,000 members across the country and operates more than 350 vessels including both commercial and military vessels. The Auxiliary has been providing first responder services to Atlantic Beach for over 80 years! Prior to merger with the United States Coast Guard, the Auxiliary was known as the “Marine Patrol Association”. The Marine Patrol Association was founded in 1922 by local fishermen who wanted to provide a safety service for sailors on their boats at night. Today, there are many different options available for those who want to join or support the Coast Guard Auxiliary. There are an active donation program which allows individuals to donate money towards Engine Service Department purchases such as gas masks and Lifejackets; fundraising events which include bake sales and car wash days; and social media outlets where members can post photos of how they have spent their day working with our agency. In addition, there are numerous annual events organized by our agency which allow members of the public accessto our vesselyards during Coastal Season; boat shows throughout Florida during Winter Break; and fireworks displays over Jacksonville each Fourth of July! Our goal is always to provide quality first responder services while promoting patriotism through responsible behavior when interacting with our citizenry.

By 1925, the population had grown to over 10,000 people. One of the biggest changes that took place in Atlantic Beach during this time was the growth of tourism. This trend began to grow throughout most of America during this time period, and as a result, there was an increase in businesses located in Atlantic Beach. Many famouspeople such as FDR and Bobby Kennedy lived here during their careers.
