The United States Army deployed gift history in Auburndale, Florida in 1951. The deployment was part of the Korean War and the Gift History Program was initiated to celebrate military service and support the troops. The first gift history event took place on December 7, 1951 in memory of Sgt. Michael Larkin who died in action during the Korean War. A plaque was dedicated to Sgt. Larkin at VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida and a unit banner flew from Fort Myers Beach, Florida as part of a Soldier's Day parade that year. In 1952, a Soldiers' Day picnic was held at Sunshine Farms Golf Course and then another on November 26th at Ft Myers Beach Memorial Park. From 1953 through 1957, there were two Soldiers’ Day parades per year which took place on December 5th at Ft Myers Beach Naval Air Station (now NAS Key West) and December 12th at Eglin AFB (now USDT MacDill AFB). Gifts were also given from civilians including fishermen, farmers, housewives, tourists and others during these events. On February 14th 1956 an American flagpole was erected outside of Ft Myers Beach Memorial Park to honor all gifts given by citizens throughout the years for military use since Christmas Eve 1950 when the program began. Additionally a plaque honoring those who gave more than $100 was placed inside of the park entrance wall near where Sgt..Larkin's plaque now stands. Auburndale, Florida is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,651 at the 2010 census. Auburndale is located on the St. Johns River at (27.5348,-81.7299). The name "Auburndale" is thought to have originated from an early settler's claim to a tract of land that lay between what are now Jacksonville and Tampa Bay. The town was founded by Captain John Auburndale in 1837 as a small fishing village on the east bank of Clearwater River adjacent to present-day Auburndale Boulevard and Railroad Street. In 1846, Captain John's son James became mayor of nearby Winter Haven and added Auburndale to the city limits; James' brother William succeeded him as mayor in 1851. In 1886, Auld Company No 10 railway arrived in town with tracks leading northward from Port Charlotte across the river into Polk County; this created new opportunities for business development and led to growth in trade and industry within Auburndale boundaries over time until it reached its peak during prohibition days when heavy alcohol production took hold hereabouts The African American community of Eastland began their own social development efforts through NAACP chapters starting around 1920s while white families continued to enjoy many good quality amenities such as schools and parks which were only accessible through subscription or purchase

Auburndale is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Auburndale was founded in 1868 by J.B. Auburndale and his wife Anna Cotton as a small country community on the east side of Lake Okeechobee. In 1871, Auburndale became an organized township with five wards and had a population of 156 people. In 1904, Auburndale incorporated as a city and had a population of 478 people; it annexed neighboring townships in 1907 to form what is now Polk County. The first post office opened in 1868, and until 1903 the town's only commercial enterprise was farming (grain) production; however, during this time there were also several blacksmiths' shops established until Prohibition made these businesses illegal in 1934. A variety of industries have since sprung up around the University District including retail sales (meat markets), real estate development (including several luxury homes built over the years for corporate executives), health care services (including three hospitals), and agricultural production (farming). One major attraction to Auburndale has always been its wide variety of cultural attractions: artsy boutiques selling unique handcrafted items from all over the world are found throughout downtown; golfers can find public or private courses that offer challenging play; horseback riding is available near downtown on two distinct trailshead locations In recent years some residents have voiced concern about how they will continue to receive essential services such as water main replacement despite budget cuts introduced by local officials - concerns that have not yet materialized into any tangible changes in policy or practice
Auburndale began as a small village in 1875, when the U.S. Seminole Indian Tribe moved to what is now Auburndale from their previous home in Micanopy. The village was originally known as "Easter." In 1902, the name was changed to "Auburn" after a new plantation was founded nearby and the name of one of its founders, Dr. John Auburndale. The town developed rapidly during the early 20th century due to its location at the intersection of two major US railroad lines; it became an important center for agriculture and manufacturing during this time. The population of Auburn grew rapidly throughout the 1920s and 1930s, thanks in part to its role as a stop on the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC). In 1942, Auburn Wasco County was created from parts of Hardee County; Auburndale remained part of Hardee County until 1959. In 1959, all county boundaries were altered by federal legislation which placed Auburn within Putnam County; however, Auburndale continued to use its original name until 1971 when it joined Putnam County under federal jurisdiction.
