Auburndale, Florida is a small town located in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,913 at the 2010 census. Auburndale is part of the Palm Beach–Boca Raton–Palm Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Auburndale was Captain John Smith on October 16, 1775. He charted a course for Fort Dade from Boca Raton and found it uninhabited but for some Seminole Indians who lived thereabouts. For many years after that date no Europeans passed through this area other than meeting Indian traders or seeking trade goods along the panhandle of Florida. In 1845 Aimer Foard built his plantation near what is now Sunrise Boulevard and Third Street in Auburndale. His land extended from what is now North Avenue east to South Boulevard and from Sunrise Boulevard south to Jupiter Road (now US-1). One hundred acres were leased by him to Major James Hawkins in 1847 as part of an agreement between Hawkins and Foard under which each man would receive one acre every two years beginning with the next year’s crop; however, due to lack of rain or other droughts during those early years no crops were grown on these lands. In 1865 Jno Crain bought 350 acres of Foard land extending east from Sunrise Boulevard south to Jupiter Road; he named his property “Auberndale” after his birthplace in Scotland—Aberdeen (albeit with an “e”). In 1870 Jno Crain married Ellen Jane Gilmore and they moved into their new home where they raised a family until their death about 1975. Their son also died young in 1976.—At approximately this time another developer purchased 500 feet of undeveloped land adjacent to Aimer Park Reserve just north of present day First Street/Eveleigh Drive.—One hundred ninety-six parcels were sold subsequent thereto resulting in the present Auburndale Community Development District (ACD) which was organized on December 12th 1979.—It should be noted that while most development occurred within ACD boundaries much outside took place as well such as Clearwater Estates housing developments located off Estero Parkway., Everglades National Park boundary golf courses operated by Disney World Resort Golf Course Services Inc., Belleair Marina retail development across Cleary Blvd./Andrea Rd., Intracoastal Waterway marina developments containing more than 100 units including condominiums completed on different streets within ACD boundaries.-With today's technology we are able to view satellite imagery images which give us a 3-dimensional image providing additional insights into our history
Auburndale, Florida was first settled in 1836 by American citizens. The town was named after General James Auburndale, who fought in the Mexican-American War and also served as a U.S. Congressman from Florida. In 1907, Auburndale became part of the new county of Pasco County and remained that way until 1959 when it was renamed to Auburndale City.
