Auburndale is a small town in rural Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Auburndale is east of Sanford and west of Kissimmee. The first Europeans to visit Auburndale were French traders in 1696. The area that became Auburndale was originally known as "Tallahassee". On February 17, 1824, State Road 7 (now US-4) was established through what is now Auburndale and it has been called "the mother road" because it carried goods and passengers between Sanford and Kissimmee for over 160 years. The first post office was established in 1836, but due to its small size no one ever built a school there until after World War II when the town building program began with the construction of the present high school complex. In 1957, an interchange opened at I-4 and SR-7 which made it possible for people travelling north from Orlando to reach Auburndale quickly without having to go through Sanford or Kissimmee In recent years Auburndale has seen some growth with new development taking place on both sides of SR-7 near its intersection with US-4. This growth has led to more traffic congestion onSR-7 around the town center which has caused some concern about aesthetic value as well as safety issues for drivers trying to navigate this heavily traveled stretch of roadway during busy periods of day or night. A study by Pritchett Consultants Incorporated completed in 2006 determined that significant improvements could be made to SR-7 within sight and sound of the community while still allowing access into/out of town without needing detours; these include widening sidewalks along both sides of SR-7 from 3 feet wide at median level all the way up to 10 feet wide outside intersections; improving signage providing directional information; resurfacing/widening shoulders adjacent to SR-7 entrances/exit ramps; installation Of green infrastructure such as raised walkways connecting buildings bordered by busy streets close to transportation hubs like restaurants and stores; Complete replacement or improvement of Route 78 bridge over CSX Railroad tracks on Town Creek Parkway

In 1846, under President George Washington, Congress passed the National Defense Act which gave rise to the modern day National Guard. The act empowered state militias to men with arms and provide them with training in order to be able to respond quickly to emergencies or defend against foreign aggression. By 1912, there were more than 20,000National Guardsmen serving in America. During World War I, the National Guard played a critical role in leading America into battle on both fronts. In 1918, however, it was disbanded due to budget cuts. However, by 1920 there were over 50,000National Guardsmen enlisted in American cities and towns across the nation. The Second World War also saw a surge in military activity as America prepared for war. The National Guard was re-instituted after the war began but participation peaked at around 75% of total military manpower by 1947 because of wartime exemptions granted to members from most states’ militaries. However, by 1970 only about 10% of all active duty soldiers were members of the National Guard; however this number is expected (based on recent trends) to increase significantly within the next few years as programs encouraging enlisted members to serve longer periods are successful at drawing recruits from among high school students and other demographics that traditionally don’t join militaries

Auburndale was founded in 1821 by Major James Wilkinson as a trading post on the Indian River. A sawmill and gristmill were built in1824, and a store opened in 1827. The town grew rapidly, and by 1830 it had a population of 150 people. In 1835, Auburndale developed into a small village with a school, churches, and stores. It retained its original name until 1840 when it changed to Auburndale Plantation after the owner's father, John Auburndale. The plantation declined in the 1840s because of economic difficulties, but it continued to beowned by the Auburndale family until 1921.
